This position will work Monday-Friday 6:00am-2:30pm for the first 6 months and may then switch to another shift following the training period. The hourly rate is $35.20 -$45.00 dependent upon experience.
Summary:
The position of Senior Maintenance Technician is a hands-on position, that provides technical expertise and oversees and participates in the maintenance, repair, and improvement of facility equipment in a validated cGMP environment. This equipment includes machinery, buildings, computer systems, control systems, safety and security systems (hereinafter referred to as Equipment). Also responsible for multiple highly complex major projects and processes requiring innovative original solutions. Additionally, this position includes responsibility for maintaining shop tools, inventory, and keeping the department’s CMMS (computerized maintenance management system) updated. The position must be proficient in the requirements of the Technician Maintenance and Project Technician positions and may be required to provide training to the technicians in these roles. The position shall support management including providing guidance to other maintenance staff and help promote a Lean team environment. This position will also be required to support after hours emergency response activities on an as needed basis. Depending on the modality in which this role operates (i.e. Ethylene Oxide), this is a physical role – requiring strength and endurance.
What you'll do as a Senior Maintenance Technician
- Performs technical troubleshooting on a variety of modalities and technologies. Performs regularly scheduled preventative maintenance on high volume, validated processing equipment. Reviews preventative maintenance tasks for effectiveness and frequency and recommends any continuous improvement changes or Lean practices for implementation to management.
- Plans and coordinates resources and materials for any planned and unplanned repairs of the Equipment and ensures all documentation for planned and unplanned Equipment maintenance is completed properly and entered the department’s Computerized Maintenance Management System. This will include initiating change control documentation for changes to validated processes.
- Adheres to, trains on, and enforces safety practices such as Lockout/Tagout and proper use of PPE by him/herself and by other technicians in the department.
- Recommends skills improvement training for his/herself and/or other technicians in the department that will improve the skill set needed to improve equipment performance and provides training to other team members as needed.
- As a member of the Lean facility team this person seeks ways to improve the company’s safety systems and applications, equipment performance and cost savings and works with management on implementation.
- Provides training, support, and guidance to other maintenance staff and directs outside contractors on facility maintenance tasks.
- Ensures Equipment calibrations are performed on time using established procedures, and promptly notifying management in the event an anomaly is discovered.
- Can be available to respond to maintenance calls off shift if assistance is needed and must be available for overtime as needed. Acts as a back-up in the absence of the Maintenance Manager.
- Contributes in a team effort by performing in accordance to all STERIS policies, GMP, Lean principles and other directives; supports the directives and decisions of higher level management and performs other duties as assigned.
The Experience, Skills, and Abilities Needed
Required:
- Associates Degree with five (5) years of experience OR a High School Diploma or G.E.D. with nine (9) years of experience.
- Requires a minimum of five (5) years of related experience in positions demonstrating knowledge of maintenance systems, mechanical processes and production output in a manufacturing/industrial/military environment.
- Requires ability to read, interpret and practically apply electrical ladder diagrams and mechanical blueprints.
- Requires working knowledge of PLC (Programmable Logic Controllers) or other types of process control equipment.
- Requires ability to effectively read, write and verbally communicate in English.
- Requires ability to read blueprints and schematics.
Preferred:
- Work experience with electrical work- license is a huge plus.
- Technical Skills and high level of expertise working Air filtering systems.
- Ability to work independently under general guidelines and supervision.
- Computer skills and word processing, spreadsheet and software capabilities.
- Effective interpersonal skills as demonstrated through prior experience.
- Above average organizing, analyzing and a minimum of Level 3 math skills (ratios, proportions, basic algebra) to determine organizational Customer and regulatory problems and to formulate corrective action plans.
- Able to adapt to changing duties and responsibilities.
- Normal hearing range sufficient to hear alarms, bells, horns, etc.
- Support Lean practices and principles.

Pay range for this opportunity is $35.20 - $45.00 based on qualifications and work experience.
Minimum pay rates offered will comply with county/city minimums, if higher than range listed. Pay rates are based on a number of factors, including but not limited to local labor market costs, years of relevant experience, education, professional certifications, foreign language fluency, etc.
