Job Title:  Senior CAD Drafter

Position Summary

The Infection Prevention Technology (IPT) business develops sterilizers used in hospitals throughout the world. This highly complex equipment ensures physicians can safely perform surgeries everyday. The Senior Designer is responsible for design, detail drafting and documentation on minor or major projects and products as assigned by Supervisor, Lead Designers and/or Engineers.  Develops components design specifications and assist in resolving design problems in support of new product development.

*This position is located onsite in Mentor, Ohio with eligibility for the hybrid work schedule.
 

Duties

•    Prepares component, assembly, and system design layouts of complex electromechanical equipment from design specs and guidance from Lead Designer and/or Engineer  in support of product development. Layouts to be completed timely and accurately with minimum impact on stackup, completely define to support the design intent with high regards for customer specifications and need.
•    Coordinates, assists, and directs efforts between Engineers and Lead. Designers and supporting other Drafters on projects by developing and creating detail documentation through engineering release.
•    Leads the drafting effort of supporting drafters in the preparation of the detail.
•    Aid in the development of drafting personnel with regards to good drafting practices and to STERIS’ policies and procedures requirements as related to documentation.
•    Design assemblies for best manufacturing process for components of design as to feasibility, cost, reliability, etc.  Originates ideas and concepts of designs.  Specifies code
•    Adheres to requirements in designs to meet various standards: UL, ASME, OSHA, NFPA, TUV, ASTM etc., as applicable by the design spec.
•    Provides accurate and complete drawings in regards to views, dimensioning, conformance to Company engineering specifications and drafting standards; assists in the final drafting checking function, and aids in securing all necessary approvals for all drawings produced under his/her supervision.
•    Performs testing or assisting in testing of prototypes and pre-production products in accordance with test protocols.  May assist in preparing and writing test summaries.

Required Experience

•    Associates Degree in an appropriate discipline or a certificate from an accredited technical school is preferred. 
•    A minimum of five years of design experience with significant CAD and PLM experience. 
•    Experience with design of sheet metal, piping, electromechanical and mechanical assemblies. Ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedures/manuals. Experienced with Microsoft Products: Excel, PowerPoint, Project, Visio
•    Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical information in various forms, and deal with several abstract and/or concrete variables simultaneously. 
•    Experience working with Creo is preferred.
•    Experience working with Windchill PLM is preferred
