The Role

 

The Maintenance Manager at the STERIS  Applied Sterilization Technologies Whippany, New Jersey facility supervises a small team of Maintenance Technicians in a 24/7/365 operation. This role will implement and maintain a successful maintenance program including the maintenance, repair and improvement of facility equipment, machinery, buildings, and related safety systems. The Maintenance Manager will establish and maintain the department’s CMMS (computerized maintenance management system) and pursue training to become the Radiation Safety Officer for the facility. In this role, the Maintenance Manager will utilize problem solving, continuous improvement, team building, and decision making to achieve business goals and is responsible for the ongoing training and development of staff employees.

What You Will Do

 

  • Directs maintenance activities and support for 7/24/365 operations. Responds to emergency maintenance calls as needed; responsible for troubleshooting or issues that cannot be resolved by Maintenance staff.
  • Establishes and promotes the Preventive Maintenance Program for the facility and reviews effectiveness.
  • Develops corrective actions and establishes a proactive plan to reduce / eliminate future occurrences; promotes continuous improvement.
  • Incorporates staff recommendations into analysis and uses findings to improve operations through predictive and preventive maintenance practices.
  • Recommends skills improvement training to ensure the department staff has adequate skills to improve equipment performance.
  • Responsible for Maintenance of equipment, building, grounds, utilities, janitorial services, and associated contracts.  
  • Maintains mechanical and technical skills knowledge and abilities and participates in training others.
  • Ensures that all federal, state, and local regulations are adhered to and maintains the facility such that it may be inspected by any regulatory agency at any time. ​​​​​​
  • Develops and implements training programs to meet the needs of the Maintenance Technicians. 

 

  • Promotes a team environment based on a successful Safety, Quality and Productivity program to meet the established goals set forth by the company, and actively manages the site safety program. 
  • Achieves financial objectives by preparing an annual budget, scheduling expenditures, analyzing variances, and initiating corrective actions.
  • Recommends and manages in the planning, justification and implementation of facility driven capital improvement projects; supports Engineering on major capital improvement projects to maintain asset value as needs arise.
  • Plans and implements Equipment and/or safety related continuous improvement projects.
  • Ensures compliance with local and federal regulations.
  • Establishes and manages relationship with local emergency services.
  • Develops skills through training sufficient to achieve Radiation Safety Officer status. 
  • Works with facility leadership and maintenance staff to address audit findings.

What You Will Need to Be Successful

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred, plus a minimum of 4 years of experience in an industrial maintenance environment including a working knowledge of pneumatics, welding, mechanics, hydraulics, electrical, PLCs and electronic applications.
  • High School diploma / GED and a minimum of 10 + years of relevant experience in an industrial environment; 12 years of experience, preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 years of supervisory or management experience.
  • Experience working with MS Office applications including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Teams. 
  • Experience using a Computerized Maintenance System (CMMS) for work orders and maintenance requests.
  • Effective interpersonal skills as demonstrated through prior management experience.
  • Above average organizing and analyzing skills; Math skills sufficient to evaluate organizational, Customer and regulatory problems and formulate corrective action plans; attention to detail.
  • Ability to adapt to changing duties and responsibilities; ability to influence others and to make decisions in stressful situations.
  • Ability to read blueprints and schematics, and to supervise outside contractors.
