Position Summary

We are currently looking for an Integrated Systems Specialist Technician to join our team in the Waltham, MA area! The Integrated Systems Specialist Technician is a newly created position and is a significant member of the STERIS Surgical Team.  The ideal candidate has field based experience, troubleshooting medical devices and A/V equipment in hospital settings. They are highly skilled in finding solutions to issues surrounding electrical and/or mechanical components/equipment. This person will be a Subject Matter Expert (SME) and serves as the liaison between the Customer and our ORI team. The ideal candidate will anticipate the needs of our Customers, technicians, and sales team, and provide support as needed. Duties

  • Ensure Customer satisfaction through pro-active communication and commitment to resolving Customer issues/problems.  Service Customers by providing preventative maintenance, service calls, warranty calls, field upgrade programs, etc.  Will be primarily responsible for accounts in their assigned territories, supporting all STERIS equipment in Operating Room environment with a focus on OR Integration. Provide support to ORI accounts outside of assigned territory as required.
  • Perform preventive and corrective maintenance required on STERIS Surgical product lines, related product lines, and related competitive equipment.  This includes:  disassembling, replacing, or repairing defective parts; rewiring or reassembling as required; troubleshooting complex items including RFI, Signal Loss or Failure, Power analysis and Grounding Issues, adjusting/calibrating, and certifying equipment ready for use by using standard and specialized tools and test equipment (i.e., schematics, diagrams, technical manuals, etc.). Understanding various vendor video equipment, video outputs/timing and competitor’s system functions.
  • Conduct Customer training and in-servicing on assigned equipment (lights, tables, integration, etc.) and perform in depth OR staff super user and biomedical engineer training.  Coordinate these activities with the District Service Manager (DSM) and Capital Account Manager.
  • Perform installations or conversions on assigned equipment and start up custom equipment as required.  Perform site visits for small projects and coordinate activities with project managers and/or installers.
  • Properly install, terminate and test cabling.  Identify, recreate and escalate product performance issues, providing specific details of how the issue was discovered. Configuring and programing terminal windows and Linux based systems.
  • Complete administrative duties as required.  Utilize technology (laptop computer, iPhone and related software) as assigned to ensure effective planning, utilization, and required paperwork completion.  This includes, but is not limited to: maintaining a shared ORI calendar, scheduling and updating work activities in Siebel, completing service reports and activities on-site; maintain on-site Customer Service Logs according to STERIS procedures; and maintain tools and parts inventory to prescribed levels.

  • Establish and maintain effective communicative relationships with Customers, managers, support functions and the sales organization.  Communicate activities to Customers related to scheduling Preventative Maintenance and estimated time of arrival for unscheduled work. Pro-actively respond to and resolve Customer problems/issues.    Utilize provided product and industry knowledge to assure Customer’s expectations of service are exceeded.  Recommend product enhancements based on knowledge of the Customer’s equipment applications and processes. 
  • Provide escalated ORI service support to all accounts in assigned territory, working with the local service and sales teams to diagnose and address field repairs in a timely manner.  Provide support to ORI accounts outside of assigned territory as required.
  • Increase company growth through identifying sales opportunities, and recommending STERIS products/services to Customers. Communicate leads to management and sales staff.  Be a positive ambassador for STERIS at Customer sites.
  • Must learn and use proper operating room and hospital protocols while on-site.  Must abide by all STERIS and Customer Health & Safety protocols and procedures.  These may include OR Protocol and Sterile Field guidelines. Maintain multiple vendor credentialing services needed for hospital access.
  • Assist DSM by conducting or assisting with inventory procedures to ensure inventory levels are maintained according to company policy, and resolve outstanding purchase order issues once recognized by the DSM.

Required Experience

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required. Associate’s Degree in Computer Science, Electronics, or Audio/Visual Communications strongly preferred.
  • Upon hire, successful completion of product specific training modules and safety training is required.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years’ technical field service experience in the healthcare products industry or equivalent technical school training.  Operating Room medical device technical experience preferred.
  • 3+ years working in a hospital setting, with physicians in operating rooms preferred.
  • 3+ years of experience working on surgical equipment to include tables, lights, audio video integration, and other OR products.
  • Knowledge of personal computers, video technology, video cabling and networking required. Use of technical software to configure and update firmware electronic devices.
  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot situations and determine solution in an independent setting.
  • Excellent, polished Customer interaction. Ability to communicate professionally with Customers.
  • Must be a self-starter and work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, sometimes outside “normal business hours” and travel as required.
  • Valid Driver’s License required
