Position Summary

In conjunction with the Facilities and Continuous Improvement Management teams, develops new or improves existing processes with the goal of improving Lean and Safety at the Tullamore campus. Establishes medium range objectives for these process improvements, including cost savings and quality improvements. Responsibilities are to be carried out in a manner which stresses safety, incorporates countermeasures and is consistent with company policies, customer service and plant objectives. Works closely with the Ireland Management team in particular, Production, Maintenance, and HR departments to manage day to day and more complex continuous improvement / safety issues contributing to the overall performance of the business.

  • Supports the development of OHS policies and programmes.
  • Preparation of reports on occurrences and provision of statistical information to Ireland Management
  • Ensure working practices are safe and comply with legislation
  • Conduct risk assessments and advise how risks can be reduced
  • Initiate and organize training of employees as deemed appropriate at the Tullamore campus
  • Conduct regular and ongoing site inspections on continuous improvement and safety elements ensuring adhereance to policies and procedures in place
  • Update of policies to ensure current legislation is accurately reflected / incorporated
  • Advise and instruct on various continuous improvement and safety topics
  • Facilitates process reviews, processing methods, equipment, and training to drive improvement in efficiency and reduction in waste and adherence to safety at all times. 
  • Utilizes statistical tools and lean principles to identify root causes and improve processes (Process capability, Pareto analysis, SPC, etc.).

  • Provides guidance for chartering of kaizen events.
  • Assists production to troubleshoot process issues for improvement and sustainment to include safety measures.
  • Provides for personal protection by using personal protective equipment and/or monitoring devices as required by safety rules, conditions and job task.
  • Exhibits a commitment to the AST shared values of Customer Satisfaction and Continuous Improvement through ensuring defect-free workmanship, assisting others to meet the Customer’s needs, searching for efficient and effective ways to reduce waste, being active and accountable for Customer satisfaction, and satisfying the Customer’s needs with a sense of urgency.
  • Contributes in a team effort by performing according to the guidelines outlined in the STERIS Code of Business Conduct, the GMP, Lean principles and other directives; supports the directives and decisions of higher level management and performs other duties as assigned.
Education Degree
  • Bachelor's Degree
Required Experience


  • Minimum 2 years of experience in an industrial engineering, statistical analysis and/or project management role in a manufacturing, process or service environment
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in the practice of Lean principles, ROI, waste reduction, etc.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience working with essential safety principles in the above mentioned environments.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience and proven results in Continuous Improvement and safety projects
  • Minimum 2 years of experience achieving resuts in a metrics driven environment
  • Proficiency with computer applications, Microsoft applications preferred.
  • Ability to effectively read, write and verbally communicate in English.
  • Ability to work under general direction of a senior team member.
  • Ability to work as a strong team player and team leader when required.
  • Strong organization and analyisation skills.
  • Ability to adapt to changing duties and responsibilities.
  • Strong presentiation and influential skills.
