Manager, Regional Health Safety & Environment

The Manager, Regional Health Safety & Environment is responsible for providing HSE support, advice and solutions,

ensuring compliance, and developing best practice on health and safety issues for the STERIS IMS Instrument

Processing Italy operations and other locations as required. The position is also responsible for driving high standards

of safety performance enabling the STERIS business to achieve its HSE objectives.

Working closely with regional management and the operational business to champion, communicate and ensure the

delivery of the regional HSE strategy with the objective of making and keeping the business safe against existing and

emerging health and safety, fire safety and environmental risks. Forfill the role of RSPP for IMS Italy, with the potential

to support other STERIS businesses in the Italian region. Building internal HSE competence and capability through the

delivery of HSE support, training, audit and review.

Supporting the Senior Manager, Regional Health Safety & Environment to implement, review and audit best practice

HSE management systems across the region, contributing to the development of robust, innovative health, safety and

environment (HSE) standards, policies, guidance and practice.

Education Degree

  • Bachelor's Degree in Science

Required Experience

  1. Minimum 3-5 years experience in similar HSE position.
  2. Experience with multi-site operations.
  3. Experience of managing and maintaining Safety and Health Management Systems (ISO 45001) and Environmental Management Systems (ISO 14001).
  4. RSPP certification (modules A, B and C) preferred.
  5. RSPP experience preferred.

  5. Pragmatic approach with ability to effectively balance technical and commercial demands
  6. Strong project/problem resolution skills.
  7. Ability to develop and deliver effective training.
  8. Highly effective communication skills; written and oral.
  9. Confident with the use of IT systems, e-learning platforms and software.  Understanding of applicable computer systems, such as Microsoft Office, SharePoint, databases, and function specific software.

 

DUTIES

Health, Safety and Environmental Management (85%)

1. Provide proactive, efficient and professional HSE advice, coaching and support to regional IMS

EMEA facilities and functional teams.

2. Work with allocated sites, site managers, regional teams and senior operators to communicate and

drive compliance with HSE standards to ensure a safe working environment.

3. Ensure that effective management of health, safety and environment is embedded at an operational

level within the business, and that managers and employees at all levels are aware of their HSE

responsibilities.

4. Contribute to the development of and support the effective implementation of the regional HSE

strategy, participating in the regular review of the strategy and its implementation.

5. Monitor, review and maintain compliance with STERIS policy/programs, and Italian HSE regulations

including the requirements of the Consolidated Law on Safety at Work (legislative Decree 81/08),

ensuring that non-compliances are promprtly reported and corrective actions raised, tracked and

completed.

6. Become appointed RSPP for IMS Italyensuring that the duties and responsibilities described in

legislative Decree 81/08 are fully met and that all RSPP reports are appropriatey issued, reviewed

and acted on.

7. Organise, lead and administer the local safety meetings, ensuring the active participation and

engagement by all required internal and external stakeholders.

8. Support the development, completion and ongoing review of risk assessments, advising on the

suitability and application of risk control measures, identify and report on inadequately controlled

risks and non-compliance with statutory or internal non-compliance.

9. Manage and maintain local compliance with ISO 45001 and ISO 14001 management systems,

ensuring that all required documents, processes and records are in place.

10. Support the regional development, monitoring and maintenance of HSE Management Systems that

are equivalent and aligned to ISO 45001 and 14001 management standards.

11. Manage the effective local implementation of HSE management systems, policies, standards,

procedures and guidelines.

12. Support the development of and deliver HSE training and other engagement initiatives that improve

employee awareness, competency and safety performance.

13. Monitor and report on training completion, performance and compliance, using feedback to identify

opportunities for improvement.

14. Ensure that all incidents, accidents, near misses and crises are appropriately reported,

investigated, escalated and managed per STERIS and/or other legal requirements.

15. Respond to incidents and accidents, claims, enforcement action and crises, carrying out

investigations in accordance with the global HSE framework and ensuring appropriate actions are

identified to prevent recurrences.

16. Timely and accurately report on regional safety performance, supporting the collection and analysis

of safety performance data and HSE metrics, identifying areas of concern and appropriate actions.

17. Carry out internal and support third-party HSE audits and reviews, ensure that reports are issued in

a timely manner and that all exceptions are appropriately escalated and addressed.

18. Maintain knowledge and awareness of regional HSE legislation, best practice and emerging risks,

reporting changes that may impact the business and support the development of effective response

strategies.

19. Develop and maintain proactive relationships with relevant industry bodies, key suppliers and

regulatory bodies.

20. Assist other HSE colleagues as required to build global HSE team effectiveness and capability.
