The Role:

This is a highly demanding site leadership role requiring a flexible and innovative leader with experience of managing cross functional teams, delivering operational excellence and leading a large, diverse team. The Operations Manager will thrive in a fast-paced culture with the ability to build and maintain effective relationships with all stakeholders.

This position is responsible for the site operations team (20 people) and all day to day activities carried out on site, along with demand forecasting activities associated with Customers and site processing capability. The Operations Manager ensures the delivery of world class service to our Customers, whilst ensuring that the site embraces the STERIS values including safety, quality, Customer safisfaction and operational efficiency.

 

Key Duties, Accountabilities and Responsibilities:

Safety

  • Lead Site HSSE Safety commitee
  • Report, trend, action and investigate safety unsafe acts, near misses,incicents and accidents
  • Drive safety standards throughout site and operational work areas
  • Maintain Fire Marshal coverage plan
  • Maintain First Aider and appointed persons coverage plan
  • To be an active member in all product and plant based risk assessments.

 

Quality

  • To be an active part of the internal audit team
  • To lead process deviation investigations ensuring corrective/preventative actions are identified, trained, implemented and verified.
  • Participate in GMP audits providing support to Quality Manager
  • Participate in regulatory audits when required
  • Participate in Customer quality audits when required
  • Ensure timely and effective communication and escalation process exists to raise quality issues to the appropriate levels of management.
  • To ensure that products are processed and stored according to the appropriate processes to assure the required quality;
  • To approve instructions relating to Site operations and to ensure their strict implementation;
  • To ensure that processing records are evaluated and signed off
  • To ensure that the appropriate Customer product validations are current and maintained, in alignment with the Technical team
  • Define and Manage the training needs of his department in accordance with company requirements and standards
  • To ensure that the required initial and continuing training of his department personnel is carried out, recorded and adapted according to need.

 

 

Planning

  • Create,own,develop,review and maintain the site Master Plan
  • Develop demand forecasts (operational forecasts) at multiple levels of aggregation for multiple time horizons as part of a demand planning function that include skills and resource planning.
  • Work with Customers in developing inventory strategies on existing items, new products, and product phase-outs.
  • Work closely with the commercial team to ensure at all times the product fits within the plant capabilities.
  • Manage and develop Customer relationships In line with agreed service levels and business imperatives.
  • Review and report monthly Customer account performance scorecards to Customers, in alignment with the Commercial team.
  • Overall responsibility for the site schedules of both the auto and batch plants, ensuring they are created, issued and managed with optimum balance between operational capabiltiies and customer needs.

 

People

  • Operational leadership of site supervisor, scheduling supervisor and sub teams, focusing on development and improvement of people to create a motivated and empowered multiskilled workforce.
  • Manage disciplinary actions,Labour forecasting, planning, interview/selection, temporary staffing, in alignment with HR, as appropriate.
  • To participate in providing management cover 24 hours per day, 365 days per year through the operation of a call out rota.
  • Drive OTOG iniatives across the site’s operational teams
  • Conduct regular performance reviews with team members focusing on development needs
  • To help create and maintain a proactive culture where team members are empowered to deliver the company

Cost

  • Review and manage team overtime hours inline with budget allocation
  • Review of plant downtime data ensuring records are managed and maintained inline with radiation and GMP standards
  • Management of site consumable stock policies

 

Delivery

  • Manage the frontline maintenance schedule ensuring adequate planning and skilled labour are available, in alignment with the site engineering team.
  • To increase the overall site efficiency and revenue by using a collaborative and inclusive approach with the engineering and quality teams
  • Manage customer communications and expectations related to processing, as and when needed.

 

Continuous improvement

  • Lead operational continuous improvement teams. Deploying area improvement plans.
  • Own site 5s audit schedule, carrying out random area inspections
  • Plan, review and develop operational standard work
  • Participate in KAIZEN events
  • Own employee Best practise visit schedule
  • To undertake any reasonable management request

 

EDUCATION EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS

Minimum of five (5) years of leadership experience working in a highly regulated operations environment. The role will require the ability to demonstrate a high level of technical aptitude and willingness to “achieve”.
