Senior Electrical Engineer

Position Summary
As a Senior Electrical Engineer, you will lead the design, analysis, testing, and documentation of complex electrical and electronic systems used in STERIS electron beam equipment. You will take ownership of the electrical system level design lifecycle—from concept through implementation—while collaborating closely with multidisciplinary engineering teams. This role also involves hands on troubleshooting, mentoring junior engineers, working with suppliers, and occasional international travel to support installations and customer projects.
What You'll do as a Senior Electrical Engineer
Design & Development
- Lead the full PCB design process, including schematic creation, layout guidance, prototyping, testing, and implementation.
- Design and evaluate electronic assemblies, control systems, and high voltage and RF subsystems used in radiation sterilization equipment.
- Apply engineering best practices to ensure all designs meet performance, safety, and regulatory requirements.
- Develop, update, and maintain detailed design specifications, system requirements, and supporting engineering documentation.
Technical Execution
- Troubleshoot and resolve electrical, RF, high voltage, and electromechanical issues across new and existing systems.
- Conduct system level evaluations, qualification testing, and design reviews to ensure reliability and manufacturability.
- Perform component selection, sourcing, and coordination with suppliers to support project timelines.
Collaboration & Leadership
- Work closely with mechanical, physics, software, and manufacturing teams to ensure cohesive system integration.
- Mentor engineering designers and junior engineers on design practices, tools, and problem solving.
- Provide technical support to internal Service groups, including occasional international travel for requirements gathering and system support.
The Experience, Skills, and Abilities Needed
- Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering and a minimum 5 years experience.
- Demonstrated experience designing complex electrical and electro-mechanical systems (analog, digital, RF, control electronics).
- Proficiency with CAD tools for schematic capture, PCB layout design, electrical simulation and 3D Modelling. (Preferably Cadence & Autodesk)
- Experience producing and reviewing technical documentation (specifications, drawings, reports, validation plans).
- Handson experience with electronics assembly and diagnostic equipment (soldering equipment, oscilloscopes, function generators, VNAs, DMMs).
- Ability to travel internationally occasionally if required.
The Preferred Experience, Skills, and Abilities
RF Engineering
- Significant experience with low power RF control board design.
- Experience with high power RF components including waveguides, circulators, loads, and directional couplers.
- Familiarity with high-power RF emitting devices including klystrons and magnetrons.
- Familiarity with design considerations for equipment operating in high-radiation environments.
- Skilled in the use of RF test instruments such as Vector Network Analyzers (VNA) and Spectrum Analyzers.
High Voltage & Pulsed Power
- Experience designing or working with high voltage DC systems up to 50 kV.
- Background with pulsed power circuits, including modulators, switching devices, energy storage components, and transient analysis techniques.
General Electrical Test & Measurement
- Proficiency with oscilloscopes, DMMs, high voltage and current probes, Hall effect sensors, and related instrumentation.
- Strong troubleshooting skills and ability to diagnose complex system behavior.

Pay range for this opportunity is $82,450.00 - $106,700.00. This position is eligible for bonus participation, with an annual bonus opportunity of 7.5% of your fiscal year compensation, subject to the Bonus Plan’s terms and conditions.
