Position Summary
The Electronics Technician I is responsible for a variety of tasks involved in assembling, prototyping, testing,
soldering, and maintaining electronic equipment and components. These tasks include assembling, diagnosing,
troubleshooting, and analyzing the performance of electronic modules, prototypes, and printed circuit boards
(PCBAs) to determine functionality while maintaining and repairing any identified issues. This supports both
production and prototype efforts. Supporting organizing and inventorying parts are also aspects of this position. The
Technician utilizes more advanced diagnostic equipment, including oscilloscopes and similar test apparatus.
The Rate of pay ranges from $20-$26 hourly based off of years of experience and skillset.
What You'll Do as an Electronics Technician
- Gathers information and shares ideas for future improvements in electronic testing and related protocols. Identifies where improvements can be made through analysis and troubleshooting processes and provides creative solutions to problems.
- Provides continuous training opportunities to maintain personal quality of work and demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the tasks required. Improves the skillset of technicians and improves the team to benefit the growth of the company.
- Contributes to a team effort by performing in accordance with all STERIS policies, GMP, Lean principles and other directives; supports the directives and decisions of higher-level management and performs other duties as assigned. Attends continuous training to maintain quality of work and improve as needed.
- Reads and understands diagrams, schematics, mechanical drawings, and bills of materials to ensure there is an understanding of the task at hand, be it building an electro-mechanical assembly, PCB rework, prototyping and identifying defects.
- Performs routine production testing to ensure proper functionality of PCB and module designs. Supervises and provides feedback to lower-level technicians. · Utilizes diagnostic tools and inspection skills, to determine issues with electronic assemblies and repairs them; maintains high workmanship standards. · Completes repair work within the designated time frame to keep projects on track for completion. · Follows all electrical safety procedures during repair and maintenance work to contribute to a safe work environment.
- Assembles electromechanical modules and creates prototypes to establish a proof of concept. · Solders electrical connections and uses other tools and equipment as required. · Provides direction and feedback to engineers. Assembles control cabinets and install components and wiring.
- Troubleshoots, tests, diagnoses, or analyzes the performance of electronic prototype assemblies (e.g., modules, assemblies, and PCBs) to determine functionality throughout the prototyping phase of the project.
- Conducts failure analysis, documents results, and recommends corrective action to make helpful contributions to future revisions and prototype feasibility.
- Assists with inventory to ensure parts are available to fulfill project requirements. Packages electronic devices/modules as needed.
