Position Summary

 

The Sr. Project Manager is responsible for leading a variety of projects in the manufacturing organization to improve productivity, efficiency, and manage costs. The Sr. Project Manager will work across all organizations within the business. Projects include, among others, equipment selection/procurement, continuous improvement initiatives, process efficiency, new product development, and process transfer. The Sr. Project Manager will support the business by working on continuous improvement initiatives such as routine management organizational support, equipment/process troubleshooting, CAPEX planning/installation and operational efficiencies. The Sr. Project Manager will be responsible for managing and executing projects using project management methodologies and tools. The Sr. Project Manager will be responsible for working with Quality to develop and execute Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT) to prove equipment with vendors.

Special projects will include footprint consolidation activities and external site Manufacturing support. The project manager will be responsible for creating and managing project timelines. The Sr. Project Manager will provide front-line coaching and mentoring to other employees, including on systems, processes, and project support. The individual will seek improvement opportunities for the team by identifying areas of training, project and workload management and other areas as identified by management.

The Sr. Project Manager will be expected to assist with other non-routine matters as needed

What you will do

 

Project Management – 75%

  • Define, develop, and implement specific improvement opportunities as they relate to the efficiency and productivity of various Manufacturing and business functions. Facilitate the definition of projects’ scope, goals, and deliverables.
  • Manage projects through all stages from needs assessment through specifications, Engineering standards, design, and delivery.  Manage vendor NDA’s, commercial items, contracts, and terms-conditions.
  • Lead the planning, directing, coordinating, and driving of multiple projects, varying in size and scope and recommend revisions in project work plans as appropriate to meet changing needs and requirements.
  • Coordinates intradepartmental projects and resources Identify and define resources requirements and assignments. Defines roles/responsibilities, aligns/manages internal and external resources globally, including internal stakeholders, project team members, and senior Manufacturing leaders.
  • Manage all STERIS and non-STERIS resources assigned to the effort, including defining each team member’s role and responsibility. Manages vendors &/or Engineering Firms for all aspects of project work; Request for Quotes, Front Engineering, Detailed Design, Construction, Start-up, and Validation.
  • Prepare and present reports defining project progress, problems, and solutions. Communicate effectively with management, functional leaders, subject matter experts, and project team members.
  • Develop a project agenda and prioritize based on impact and timelines. Measures outcomes of implemented solutions.
  • Participate in webinars, training sessions, and user groups to become the STERIS expert on the project subject matter.
  • Drive project teams to make decisions, complete tasks and execute the plan based on defined deliverables and timelines.
  • Develop metrics / scorecards for each initiative to track progress and share with leadership and team members.
  • Use lean philosophies and methodology for process improvement.
  • Supports the continuous improvement initiatives within the function, including standard work and the root-cause-countermeasure process in support of key performance indicators (KPIs)
  • Works within the department’s Lean tracking tools and provides data as needed for monthly documentation of performance against agreed-upon KPIs.
  • Participates in, conducts, or facilitates Kaizen events when appropriate and supports the action plans that result in those events.

Change Management:

  • Document new processes and procedures.
  • Implement process, technology or organization changes based on determined solutions.
  • Prepare and deliver all communication related to the initiative.
  • Prepare comprehensive implementation plans.
  • Ensure a smooth transition from recommendation to implementation including the preparation of performance metrics from which progress will be gauged.

Daily Manufacturing Support – 25%

  • Support achieving site Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s) via routine management programs and creating and addressing countermeasures.
  • Ongoing support to increase efficiencies and quality output off of equipment and throughout the manufacturing processes.
  • Participate and lead Quality and HSE incident Root Cause/Corrective Action (RCCA).
  • Support all aspects of new product scale-up and transitioning from New Product Development and Product Insourcing.
     

What you need to be successful

 

  • Bachelor's Degree required, preferably Engineering or applicable Project Management
  • 7+ years’ experience in Manufacturing
  • 3+ years of experience in managing business projects from concept to implementation.
  • Experience with utilizing project management software.
  • Knowledge and competency of Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint required.
  • Continuous Improvement experience required
  • Demonstrated analytical and project management skills including data gathering, analysis, development of recommendations and creation of project plans.
  • Demonstrated problem solving and decision-making skills involving system design, manufacturing process development and tactical business decisions.
  • Personally operate with high level of productivity and efficiency. 
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills are required to effectively manage cross functional teams.
  • Strong leadership and influence skills with the ability to build strong, collaborative relationships and complete tasks without direct accountability.
  • Ability to work independently and in a cross-functional, team-oriented environment.
  • Detail-oriented with strong support for manufacturing quality production. 
  • Ability to think critically and strategically about proposed programs or process changes and provide meaningful insight to business stakeholders.
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously under tight deadlines. Ability to manage multiple projects at the same time is critical to the success of this role.
  • Outstanding organizational, communication (both verbal and written) and relationship skills conducive to collaboration. 
  • Solid knowledge/understanding of business processes.
  • Excellent formal presentation skills before small and large groups.
  • Able to execute high level of discretion and latitude in completing tasks.
