Responsibilities

  • Designs, develops, and carries out test plans/experiments for assigned projects with supervisor or management input, to include, the recording, analysis, and scientific evaluation of experimental data.
  • Performs analyses and resolves issues using good problem solving techniques.
  • Demonstrates excellent laboratory technique
  • Operates and maintains instrumentation, defines and measures quality metrics and reports results in an appropriate manner.
  • Participates on project teams and establishes good working relationships within STERIS Corporation.

Education Requirements

- Bachelor's degree in Chemistry is required.

- Advanced degree in Chemistry area is desirable.

Technical Requirements

Requires 5+ years of related laboratory experience.

Other Job Requirements

  • Travel up to 10%
  • Demonstrated experience working successfully in a team environment.
  • Ability to read and interpret SDS files and safely handle organic and inorganic chemicals.
  • Maintain knowledge of FDA and EPA requirements for method validation and stability
  • Assure efficient laboratory operation through acquisition and inventory control of consumables lab supplies and chemicals.    
  • Practical working knowledge of Good Laboratory Practices (GLP).
  • Performs or conducts scientific literature searches and evaluations.
  • Prepares and presents data at internal or external meetings, as requested.
  • Independently operate various. standard instruments and perform basic maintenance according to established methods
  • Complies with established procedures and within regulatory and laboratory requirements.
  • Demonstrates proficient writing skills for the following:
    • SOPs and their revisions
    • Test plans/protocols and recognizing when modifications are needed
    • Laboratory reports
    • OOS reports
  • Maintains the Research Notebook recording detailed information on activities undertaken, existing conditions and observed results.
  • Demonstrates good oral communication skills.  Give presentations to group and within R&D
  • Perform all work in a safe and environmentally conscious manner

Basic Technical Skills

  • Possess basic laboratory skills related to job field
  • Skilled in the use of basic chemistry laboratory equipment.
  • Familiar with the operation/theory of GC, LC, FTIR, and quantitative wet chemistry techniques.
  • Ability to read and follow protocols/Work Instructions/methods.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint
  • Capable of solving complex chemistry problems through accurate interpretation of data and in-depth investigations.
  • Practical knowledge/experience working under regulatory agency guidelines is desired
  • Conduct independent research on assigned projects/work
  • Possesses a moderate degree of technical experience in analytical chemistry.
  • Maintains a level of technical knowledge and understanding of analytical chemistry that is consistent with the current scientific literature.

  • Exceptional team player with some leadership responsibilities
