As a Scientist not only will you be conducting research but also working on practical development of products for unique applications. You will have the opportunity to work in the lab on a daily basis performing design of experiments, conducting the experiments, analyzing and interpreting the data and reporting on the results. 

Duties

•   Design, develop, and carry out test plans/experiments for assigned projects with supervisor or management input, to include, the recording, analysis, and scientific evaluation of experimental data. 
•    Operate and maintain instrumentation, define and measure quality metrics and report results in an appropriate manner.
•    Work with different antimicrobial technologies and disinfectant technologies.
•    Maintenance of microbiological stocks.
•    Participate on project teams and establish good working relationships within STERIS Corporation.
•    Maintain knowledge of FDA and EPA requirements.
•    Assure efficient laboratory operation through acquisition and inventory control of consumables lab supplies and chemicals.   
•    Comply with established procedures and within regulatory and laboratory requirements.
•    Travel up to 10%

Required Experience

•    Bachelor’s degree in Microbiology, Biology is required.

•    Advanced degree in applicable area is desirable.
•    Requires 5+ years of related laboratory experience within an industrial setting in Microbiology
•    Excellent written and verbal communication skills. 
•    Knowledge of a broad range of microorganisms.
•    Practical working knowledge of Good Laboratory Practices (GLP).
•    Experience handling of Level 2 Microorganisms is desired.
•    Demonstrate basic knowledge of antimicrobial technologies.
•    Demonstrates proficiency of the following:

  •    Aseptic technique
  •  Use and interpretation of test controls in experiments.
  • Inoculation and recovery of test organisms

•    Demonstrates understanding of the following:

  • Sterility assurance
  • D-values

•    Skilled in the use of basic microbiology and chemistry laboratory equipment.
•    Capable of solving microbiological problems through accurate interpretation of data and in-depth investigations.
•    Practical knowledge/experience working under regulatory agency guidelines is desired. 
•    Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
