Position Summary
The Maintenance Supervisor in the STERIS St. Louis, Missouri facility coordinates and oversees plant and facility maintenance functions and effectively utilizes resources to maintain all the machinery, plant facilities and equipment in good, reliable condition. The Maintenance Supervisor leads the activities of maintenance personnel and contractors related to maintaining, repairing, and ensuring the reliability of the physical systems of the building and production equipment through corrective, preventive and predictive maintenance programs.
What You’ll do as a Maintenance Supervisor
- Supervise functions of the Maintenance department including prioritizing and managing planned and unplanned Work Orders (WO) through the preventative maintenance program, maintenance projects, and resource allocation.
- Efficiently implement, maintain, and improve corrective and preventative maintenance programs for machines and equipment to best utilize the assets and minimize down time. Assets include manufacturing equipment, electrical panels, HMIs, PLC Control Logic, sewer systems, water supply-purification systems, chillers, HVAC equipment and filters, boilers, elevators, plant air, carpentry and cafeteria equipment.
- Identify capital investment needs for Maintenance Department. Assist with capital justifications and implementation of equipment.
- Provide support to other departments by researching and justifying their capital investments.
- Direct all installation activities for equipment/machinery investments either via Plant Maintenance personnel or outside contractors.
- Maintain Maintenance WO system and generate work orders and PM’s for all maintenance requests for the machinery, facilities or equipment including planning, scheduling, and allocating resources for the safe efficient completion of the WO’s/PM’s in a timely manner.
- Direct activities of outside contractors and vendors as required ensuring quality, safety and cost controls.
- Train staff to perform maintenance duties for the facility and maintain training documentation.
- Be familiar with operational and capital budgets for facility maintenance.
- Manage maintenance needs to operate within budget.
- Assist in negotiating and administer annual maintenance contracts. Identify, implement, and track cost saving initiatives.
- Prepare required reports on performance of department on a daily and weekly basis to support applicable meetings such as Shutdown Planning, Tier (I,II,III), Weekly SQDC board walkdowns, etc.
- Meet all administrative deadlines and requirements as defined by pertinent regulatory agencies.
- Performs and coordinates performance reviews, recruitment, technical training for staff, salary adjustments, and employee relations.
- Maintain results through coaching, counseling of staff and setting meaningful and measurable goals.
- Supervise, plan, and administer department activities while providing a safe work environment.
- Support quality, safety, lean and continuous improvement initiatives through participation in teams and special projects.
- Work independently with minimal guidance.
The Experience, Skills and Abilities Needed
Required:
- Associate's degree in engineering or related discipline.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in facilities/plant maintenance required, preferably in a production environment.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in related manufacturing environment with demonstrated technical knowledge related to area of responsibility, e.g. such as CNC, Robots, Electronic, Electrical, and Mechanical.
- Ability to interpret manufacturing schematics and blueprints and interface effectively in technical situations.
- Demonstrated excellent organizational, communication, team building, coaching, and decision-making skills.
- Ability to integrate safety, 5S requirements and lean manufacturing principles into maintenance practices.
Preferred:
- Coursework in industrial electronics, welding, HVAC, PLC and industrial machine repair strongly desired.
- CAD experience is desired.
- Experience with lean manufacturing concepts strongly desired.
- Minimum of 3 years of supervisory experience highly desired.
Other:
- Stationary Engineer’s license or willingness to obtain.

Pay range for this opportunity is $59,500.00 - $99,000.00 This position is eligible for [BONUS PARTICIPATION] OR a [INSERT COMMISSION RATE RANGE, IF APPLICABLE] commission.
Minimum pay rates offered will comply with county/city minimums, if higher than range listed. Pay rates are based on a number of factors, including but not limited to local labor market costs, years of relevant experience, education, professional certifications, foreign language fluency, etc.
