Position Summary
1. Employee will possess all knowledge, qualifications and ability specified for Maintenance Mechanic-A. He/she must be able to schedule, instruct, direct and follow-up for proper performance and activities of all maintenance mechanics.
2. Must be qualified to plan and make estimates for minor repair and alteration jobs.
3. As directed, sets up a system of checklists for electrical and mechanical preventative maintenance programs, and shall carry out the program or assign personnel to perform this work.
4. Shall be capable of carrying out maintenance of all equipment as well as installing and/or constructing new equipment in the plant or on the premises (including electrical equipment).
5. Shall have a current Stationary Engineer's License and post such when requested by the Company.
6. Is responsible for keeping shop area, equipment, and surrounding work area clean at all times.
7. When required for maintenance or repair activities, is responsible for removing accumulated hazardous wastes from affected area and for transporting such wastes to the hazardous waste storage area.
8. Performs other duties as directed by supervisor.
Education Degree
- High School Diploma or GED
- Vocational/Technical
Required Experience
Must have a current stationary engineer’s license. High School Graduate or equivalent.
Three years of industrial plant maintenance experience desirable – either from trade school training or experience.
Ability to read and comprehend written instructions, safety warning labels, machine instruction manuals and schematics.
Basic math, writing and data entry skills. Demonstrated proficiency in performing advanced maintenance functions in a safe manner, including but not limited to: industrial electronics, welding, pipe fitting, carpentry, shop machine operation, small engine repair, HVAC. May be either from education or experience.
Required Competencies
Ability to access all parts of all production equipment, including, but not limited to the following: confined spaces; ceiling mounted equipment; equipment in pits, machines that must be climbed, crawled under, or otherwise entered with limited access. Good hand/eye coordination. May be expected to move, carry and lift at least 70 pounds. May be expected to climb heights of approximately 30 feet. Must be able to walk and stand for long periods of time. Must be able to wear personal protective equipment, as required. Equipment listed below (Specific Job Requirements) may be used, as needed, to assist in these Required Competencies.
Specific Job Requirements
Boiler, forklift, scissor lift, all shop equipment, power tools, various welders, hoists. Must be able to perform basic rescue and life-saving functions when serving as safety backup. Stock all maintenance inventory and supplies, as directed by supervisor. Ability to climb ladders and narrow stairs safely.
Misc.
Position held by most senior employee who has the qualifications and desire to hold the position. Performs necessary quality and inventory control data gathering and input in either written or electronic formats. Reliable, good communication skills. Must be able to communicate and coordinate efforts with people from all levels of the organization. Able to work with minimal direct supervision. Maintenance of personal hygiene.
