Position Summary

The Group Leader, Scientific will provide technical leadership, development, and expertise in Microbiology at the level of a subject matter expert. The individual will lead teams of scientific professionals to develop and deliver a technical roadmap that will directly contribute to the continued success of STERIS product lines.

Duties

  1. Demonstrates technical expertise in STERIS scientific technologies as they relate to Microbiology.
  2. Leads a team of scientists and is responsible for all aspects of personnel management for all direct reports including work flow, MBOs and development plans
  3. Responsible for management, design, development and delivery of targets of one or more projects including providing leadership and direction to the project team.
  4. Takes ownership of all assigned projects/tasks from initiation to completion including the performance of personnel in their group.
  5. Independently performs analyses and resolves complex issues using critical thinking skills, problem solving techniques, and scientific expertise
  6. Responsible for the communication of results/conclusions/ recommendations to senior management
  7. Participates in refining current techniques, defining new techniques, troubleshooting problems and documenting processes, procedures and results.
  8. Participates on cross functional project teams and establishes good working relationships within STERIS Corporation.

Education Degree

Bachelor's Degree in Biology

Required Experience

  • 10+ years of related laboratory experience required.
  • 10+ years of related project management experience required.
  • Lead or Supervisory experience, especially in an R&D team, is strongly preferred.

Other Job Requirements

 

  • Travel up to 10% (including internationally).
  • Demonstrated experience leading successfully in a team environment.
  • Experience in project leadership.
  • Assurance of efficient laboratory operation through acquisition and inventory control of consumables (lab supplies & chemicals).
  • Develop Microbiological methods.
  • Practical working knowledge of Good Laboratory Practices (GLP).
  • Serves as contact point for outside vendors & consultants.
  • Proposes solutions and defines technical direction for microbiological development efforts.
  • Complies with established procedures and within regulatory and laboratory requirements
  • Maintains a Research Notebook. 
  • Performs all work in a safe and environmentally conscious manner.
  • Maintains knowledge of FDA and EPA and European requirements for Microbiological Efficacy Testing. 
  • Provides technical input and leadership to less experienced members of the group.
  • Recognizes, communicates and provides interpretation of unexpected results.
  • Possesses excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Maintains knowledge of current literature.
  • Provides current product support to marketing and sales teams, technical expertise in assisting with Customer issues and on Customer sites, and reviews sales and marketing documents for technical accuracy.
