Position Summary

The scope of this position includes development and release of all artwork and finished graphics for all products under the authority of STERIS ST. Louis Operations.  Products included are produced both internally on-site and externally by third party contract packagers.  This position is responsible for artwork development, revision control, release for production, and revision archives.  Position provides compliance of all artwork and labeling with 49CFR Hazardous Materials Regulations for multi-modal transport of Dangerous Goods domestically and internationally.   Graphics compliance with Corporate and Business Group graphic identity standards and guidelines is critical.  The resulting graphics must promote safe product utilization, satisfy external and internal customer needs, project appropriate STERIS visual image and high quality, and be cost effective and functional.  The Graphic Developer in this position must be able to work independently and have a good working relationship with other departments.  The ability to lay out labels with all required information in the STERIS format is essential. Position will function within a World Class Safety culture.

Duties

  • Practice a World Class Safety philosophy on and off the job. 
  • Responsible for design, develop, coordinate artwork that satisfies the varied needs of Marketing, Regulatory, Manufacturing, Product Development, Package Design, and other related functional areas.  Graphics content is supplied and approved by Marketing, Legal, and Regulatory areas.  Position implements, proofs and ensures layout and format compliance with Corporate and Business Group graphic identity standards and guidelines.  Assists in ensuring that graphics comply with all federal, state, and local laws, regulations, and guidelines, such as FDA, EPA, cGMP, and ISO.
  • Position will design and develop label layout keeping within the corporate graphic identity standards. Make update changes to current labels through label change request forms and internal department required changes.  
  • Position ensures compliance with labeling and marking requirements for hazardous materials product transport.  Provide assistance and support in developing solutions to resolve HAZMAT labeling issues for local site, third party vendors, and, as appropriate, other STERIS sites.  Incumbent must maintain personal periodic HAZMAT training requirements.
  • Position requires a proficiency in Oracle, Prism, and AS-400 manufacturing computer systems and assists in inputting labeling related data.
  • Develops and maintains appropriate graphics artwork tracking systems, including databases, to facilitate project scope development, creation, planning, execution, tracking and status reporting. 
  • Maintain appropriate graphic artwork archival records systems. 
  • Prepares and presents reports and communications related to project scope and status.
  • Write, review and update Labeling related SOPs and work instructions to ensure accurate reflection of actual functional processes.  

  • Participate in reviewing Labeling related SOPs and functional area processes to identify and implement improvements in output capacity, accuracy, reduction of non-valued added effort, and project planning/scheduling/status reporting.
  • Position requires an independent work ethic, that can organize work in an efficient manner and make decisions on layout and design, staying within the STERIS Corporate graphic identity standards.
  • Responsible to take the lead on new label projects and represent the labeling group on new projects, label redesigns, and enhancements.
  • Requires positive individual and team contact with internal STERIS and external vendor personnel.  Typical contacts include site directors, project managers, and individual contributors in many functional areas, such as Marketing, Product Development, Purchasing, Quality Systems, Manufacturing, Packaging Development, contract packagers, and packaging manufacturers

Education Degree

  • Bachelor's Degree in Design

Required Experience

  • Number of years experience accepted in lieu of degree and type:             10 years of graphics experience.
  • Number of years experience with degree indicated above and type:         3 years of graphics experience.
  • 3 or more years of Pharmaceutical and/or Medical Device industry experience in the labeling field is required.
  • 2 or more years of Hazardous material  transportation regulations experience and familiarity with DOT Hazmat regulations for packaging and transport of dangerous goods are also required.

Preferred Experience

  • 1-3 years experience with part 11 software application validation is strongly preferred.

Skills

  1. Position will require excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  2. Excellent proofreading skills are required.
  3. Proficiencey in the use of AS400, Oracle, and Windows Office Suite.
  4. Excellent organizational skills are required.
  5. Must have the ability to lead Labeling projects.
  6. Working knowledge of graphic design software, specifically Indesign, Illustrator and Photoshop.
  7. Familarity with Apple Computer systems using Adobe and Microsoft programs.
