Position Summary

At STERIS, the manufacturing engineering position works closely with plant and engineering personnel, as well as with customers to help make sound engineering recommendations and assist in establishing the manufacturing process. This process includes the methods, equipment, tooling, and skills required to manufacture the product. Once the manufacturing process is established the manufacturing engineer assists in the training of personnel, recommending process improvements and reviewing engineering changes, as required, prior to implementation.

What You Will Do

•    Work closely with R & D engineering and customers during product development as part of the design team. 
•    Assist in developing prototype and Pre-Production Quality Assurance, (PQA), products and carefully coordinate these activities with the engineering group and plant personnel.
•    Recommend and implement overall process and product improvements.
•    Design and or develop tooling and fixturing for the manufacturing of parts and products.
•    Provide training to employees on manufacturing methods and special processes.
•    Evaluate engineering drawings and develop and/or assist in the development of process routers. 
•    Evaluate capital equipment needs and provide rationale and justification for suggested equipment.
•    Stay abreast of new technologies and their applicability to reduce costs and improve processes.
•    Responsible for environmental, health and safety programs, procedures and compliance within respective functions.
 

Education Degree

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering General

What Will Help You Be Successful

  • Progressive manufacturing engineering experience of 3-5 years with proven manufacturing knowledge within metal fabrication industry and skills to fulfill the requirements listed above.
  • Strong analytical and interpersonal skills.  Ability to utilize good verbal and written communication skills to communicate across various areas and levels both internally and externally. 
  • Capable of operating standard computer equipment.
  • Ability to communicate utilizing standard tele-communication equipment/systems.
  • Posture is primarily sitting with limited standing, bending, or twisting.  Ability to move between areas is required.
  • Ability to move materials from one area to another weighing up to 25 pounds.
  • Capable of reading and understanding various kinds of job-related documentation and standard operating procedures.
  • Visual acuity adequate to detect subtle visual product non-conformities.
  • Must have PC experience, as well as working familiarity of desktop applications including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Experience with statistical analysis software and Visio preferred.
