Position Summary

Assists the Maintenance Manager or Plant Manager in maintaining an organized, clean, and safe working environment, which contributes to the overall operation and well-being of the facility.


  1. Services, cleans, and supplies facility interior including restrooms, break/lunchrooms, changing rooms, lobby, conference rooms, and offices. The duties can include, but are not limited to: routine cleaning and/or polishing furniture and office equipment; cleans drapes or window blinds / shades; washes windows, counters, walls ceiling and woodwork; sweeps, vacuums, shampoos, scrubs and waxes floors, etc.; empties trash containers as needed. 
  2. Ensures day-to-day continuity of cleaning schedule by maintaining an inventory of custodial supplies necessary to perform job, advising proper individuals when supplies need to be ordered and making recommendations for proper cleaning supplies. 
  3. Assists production by helping in movement of product within facility as necessary (may require tow motor qualification). 
  4. Supports Maintenance function by performing general minor maintenance tasks (painting, plumbing, lighting, and other building repairs).  
  5. Contributes to the overall functioning of the facility by performing messenger and delivery activities within and outside of the facility (mail, parts from suppliers, etc.).  
  6. Completes required training and re-training to follow procedures for the use of chemical cleaners and power equipment etc. to ensure safety of all. 
  7. Sets up, arranges, and removes decorations, tables, chairs, etc. to prepare facility for meetings, events, and functions. 
  8. Contributes in a team effort by performing in accordance to all STERIS policies, GMP, Lean principles and other directives; supports the directives and decisions of higher-level management and performs other duties as assigned.

Education Degree

  • High School Diploma or GED

Required Experience

  1. One (1) year experience in general housekeeping.

Preferred Experience


  1. Valid driver’s license preferred
  2. Completion of forklift operator training class if required to operate tow motor.
  3. Ability to effectively read, write, and verbally communicate.
  4. Ability to work independently under general guidelines and supervision
  5. Requires effective interpersonal skills as demonstrated through prior experience
  6. Able to adapt to changing duties and responsibilities
  7. Normal hearing range sufficient to hear alarms, bells, horns, etc.
  8. A minimum of Level 1 math skills (add and subtract 2-digit numbers. Multiply and divide 10’s and 100’s by 2,3,4,5, ability to use the four arithmetic functions of add, subtract, multiply and divide with money, measurements, e.g. cup, pint, inch, foot, lbs. etc.)
  9. Excellent Customer service skills
  10. Understands and follows safety policies and procedures, including bloodborne pathogens training and safe lifting techniques
  11. Basic Computer Skills
