Director Operations

 

As the Director of Operations, you will lead the facility in the daily operations and manufacturing of customized products in a cleanroom environment. The ideal candidate has a proven record of achievement in their ability to lead, inspire, and promote teamwork and collaboration. Responsibilities are focused on the safe, high quality, on time, cost effective delivery of products to Customers globally. This incumbent will lead the team in implementing operational strategies and achieving business objectives. This individual will possess strong financial acumen, drive continuous improvement in operating performance, and be able to lead a team in delivering results and achieving established KPIs.

 

What you will do as a Director of Operations

 

  • Direct and lead overall plant operations:  production, engineering, quality control, supply chain, and shipping, along with supporting staff functions.
  • Determine and manage plant procedures and policy consistent with company, quality, and regulatory guidelines.
  • Foster and promote a healthy and safe work environment consistent with OSHA, EPA or other applicable country, regional, and/or municipal standards. Enforce that all potential or real hazards and injuries are reported, work practices are properly followed, all appropriate PPE is used, and all applicable safety training is delivered.
  • Develop short and long-term strategies and objectives including capital and workforce planning and administer operating functions, approvals, reports, and metrics. 
  • Establish, monitor, direct and achieve agreed-upon business metrics, goals, and objectives.
  • Develop, supervise, and evaluate Lean Manufacturing strategies. Oversee management and drive of continuous improvement activities by ensuring that the principles of operational excellence are driven deeply into the culture and regularly assessed for improvement; strategically deploy lean tools to drive step-change improvements (e.g. Shingijutsu events); and produce and deliver results while striving for year over year improvements in KPI’s.
  • Manage delivery of all products within established cost and Quality standards in accordance with Customer requirements, Quality Systems, design specifications, production schedules, and cost work standards.
  • Develop, promote, and maintain an engaged workforce that includes individual development opportunities for employees, training and education, coaching, leadership development, standard daily management, idea sharing, reward and recognition, effective communication, employee involvement, effective recruitment and succession planning, and accountability.
  • Develop, supervise, evaluate, and coach direct reports and the facility’s leadership team. Provide the necessary coaching and mentoring to develop both technical and managerial skills. 
  • Ensure and promote positive employee and union relations (where applicable) to ensure a highly motivated workforce that is dedicated to, and supportive of meeting Customer requirements and company objectives.
  • Develop annual business plans in support of corporate objectives and monitor performance against plan, taking corrective actions to ensure all objectives are met. Control activities and expenditures to ensure operating within established budgets.
  • Communicate the progress and status of the operations at the facility to corporate management. Serve as liaison between the facility and the other STERIS facilities and business groups.
  • Promote and represent STERIS in the local civic and medical communities. Host Customers and other visitors. Instill a Customer-centered culture across the organization.
  • Other operations-related responsibilities which may be assigned.
     

Experience, skills, and abilities needed

 

  • Bachelor’s Degree (Engineering, Operations, Supply Chain, Business, or Related Technical Field). Master's degree preferred. 
  • 10+ years’ experience in manufacturing or business operations and procedures.
  • 5+ years’ of manufacturing management experience.
  • Experience with manufacturing/processing techniques and tools. 
  • Thorough understanding of general practices and operations of Human Resources, Finance, Engineering, Materials Management and Quality System requirements.
  • Strong leadership, communication, analytical, interpersonal, presentation, and computer skills.
  • Regulatory/FDA, medical device operations experience, strongly preferred.
  • Experience with MRP/Kanban environment, preferred.
