Position Summary

Prepares, ships, and receives Customer product ensuring proper documentation. May perform the duties of Material Handler. Ability to train and substitute for supervisor if she/he is not present.



  • Receives Customer product through acceptance or unloading shipping container, including pallet breakdown and identifying box weights; processes all applicable documentation in an accurate manner.
  • Warehouses incoming Customer product by transferring product to unprocessed storage area in a safe manner.
  • Maintains an organized dock area through controlling the trailer storage area.
  • Prepares product for shipment by retrieving Customer product from processed area and staging shipping area; prepares accurate shipping documentation; loads product into shipping container or transfers small packages to delivery service.
  • Ensures shipment of product within shipping deadline by maintaining contact with Customer transportation personnel and with vendor and internal facility staff.
  • Operates Powered Industrial Trucks and equipment in a safe manner to ensure proper handling of Customer product.
  • Drives yard truck to move trailers and safely and efficiently manage traffic congestion on company property and product flow into and out of the facility.
  • Operates wireless RF scanners to ensure accurate receipt and shipment of product into and out of the facility.
  • Manages and prioritizes multiple tasks to ensure Customer requirements for processing and delivery are completed timely.
  • Contributes to maintaining a safe and clean working environment by performing routine area housekeeping and reporting any unsafe conditions to facility management.
  • Contributes to efficient processing operations by assisting Material Handlers as needed.
  • Protects company confidential information by properly storing, retrieving and disseminating such information only to those authorized.
  • Exhibits a commitment to the AST shared values of Customer Satisfaction and Continuous Improvement through ensuring defect-free workmanship, assisting others to meet the Customer's needs, searching for efficient and effective ways to reduce waste, being active and accountable for Customer satisfaction, and satisfying the Customers needs with a sense of urgency.
  • Contributes in a team effort by performing according to the guidelines outlined in the STERIS Code of Business Conduct, the GMP. Lean principles and other directives; supports the directives and decisions of higher level management and performs other duties as assigned.

Education Degree

High School Diploma or GED

Required Experience

  • A minimum of two (2) years clerical experience and one year of warehousing experience.
  • Ability to effectively read, write and verbally communicate in English.
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize duties.
  • Ability to work independently under general guidelines and supervision.
  • Requires ability to navigate through defined computer screens and STERIS Operational Data Management System.
  • Above average organizing, analyzing and a minimum of Level 2 math skills (four basic arithmetic functions in all units of measurement, decimals, ratios, rates, percentages). Can draw and interpret bar, line or pie charts. Strong attention to detail and data accuracy (Receiving Reports, Bills of Lading, etc.)
  • Requires effective interpersonal skills as demonstrated through prior experience.
  • Able to adapt to changing duties and responsibilities.
  • Normal hearing range sufficient to hear alarms, bells, horns, etc.
  • Requires knowledge of DOT regulations.
