Position Summary

Are you a self-motivated individual who when needed, collaborates with others? Does the idea of designing products to help keep our world healthier appeal to you? Consider joining STERIS as a Designer, where you will design, develop and document the manufacturing construction documentation for mechanical or electrical components and subassemblies to meet company, team and group goals. Collaborate with Design, Manufacturing, and Service Engineers to create production-ready components and product designs and drawings using 2D and 3D applications (AutoCAD, CREO).  Proficiency with CREO and AutoCAD preferred but not mandatory.  


  • Prepares complete and accurate layouts: critical tolerance areas, component requirements and placement, material selection and manufacturability in support of current products, new designs, methods, materials, or process studies
  • Creates accurate and complete drawings with regard to view, dimensioning, and conformance to company engineering specifications and drafting standards; assists in the final drafting checking function and aids in securing all necessary approvals for all drawings produced.
  • Creates CAD models and assists with developing design layouts and drawings for a variety of components, sub-assemblies, processes, or equipment in support of projects.
  • Interacts with vendors, suppliers, and consultants, on a limited basis, to assure compliance with requirements and specifications.
  • Works as a collaborative team member in engineering projects.
  • Contributes to some ideas and concepts of designs.
  • Provides technical assistance to Manufacturing, Service, Purchasing, etc. on implementation of ECN’s through the Windchill system as to documentation problems and or manufacturing problems.
  • May be required to assist with duties involving prototype assembly, parts expediting for prototypes, validation of new or existing products and other duties associated with engineering projects.

Education & Experience

  • Associate degree in Design or Drafting or in pursuit
  • Prefer at least 2 years of Designing experience. 
  • Proficiency with CREO application and familiarity with 3D surfacing techniques is desired. 

Skills & Abilities

Proficient in 2D and 3D CAD Modeling. CREO preferred but will consider other CAD software experience.

Basic problem solving skills.

Familiar with accepted drafting standards (ANSI Y14.5 or equivalent) and technical standards and areas such as Mechanical Engineer’s Handbook, electrical schematics, and piping diagrams is highly desired. 

Able to travel up to 5% including internationally.
