The Role

 

As the Manager, Health Safety and Environment (HSE) you will develop, plan, implement, and pro-actively monitor the facility(s) Health, Safety and Environmental programs with a focus on meeting world class safety and best practices. The Manager of Health Safety and Environment is responsible for partnering with the assigned facility(s) management to ensure that the facility meets all governmental requirements and corporate safety objectives. Responsible for the technical and administrative management of site safety and occupational health programs. You will work closely with management and the operational business to champion, communicate and ensure the delivery of the Dental business HSE strategy with the objective of making and keeping the business safe against existing and emerging health and safety and environmental risks.

 

What You Will Do

  • Provide proactive, efficient and professional HSE advice, coaching and support to identified businesses and functional teams.
  • Plan and execute behavioral based safety and occupational/industrial hygiene programs. 
  • Ensure that effective management of health, safety and environment is embedded at an operational level within the business, and that managers and employees at all levels are aware of their HSE responsibilities.
  • Organize, lead, and administer the local safety meetings, ensuring the active participation and engagement by all required internal and external stakeholders. 
  • Support the development, completion, and ongoing review of risk assessments, advising on the suitability and application of risk control measures, identify and report on inadequately controlled risks and non-compliance with statutory or internal non-compliance.
  • Prepare and publish (where applicable) local, state, and federal mandatory health & safety reports.
  • Support the development of and deliver HSE training and other engagement initiatives that improve employee awareness, competency, and safety performance.
  • Provide technical design and assist in administration of site emergency response and disaster recovery programs.
  • Ensure that all incidents, accidents, near misses and crises are appropriately reported, investigated, escalated, and managed per STERIS and/or other legal requirements.

  • Respond to incidents and accidents, claims, enforcement action and crises, conducting investigations in accordance with the global HSE framework and ensuring appropriate actions are identified to prevent recurrences.
  • Review applicable Capital Appropriation Requests for safety considerations and make recommendations, as necessary. Provide input to HSE budget and maintain expenses within the budget for area of responsibility.
  • Maintain knowledge and awareness of HSE legislation, best practice and emerging risks, reporting changes that may impact the business and support the development of effective response strategies.
  • Develop and maintain proactive relationships with relevant industry bodies, key suppliers and regulatory bodies.
  • Oversee implementation and maintain the requirements for participation in OSHA’s Voluntary Protection Program (or equivalent). 
  • Support, through a Legal Register, the identification, communication, and implementation of existing, new and/or revisions to existing environmental regulations.
  • Maintain compliance with Dental policy/programs, and HSE regulations including the requirements of the ISO 14001 / 45001, ensuring that non-compliances are promptly reported, and corrective actions raised, tracked and completed.

  • Work with allocated sites, site managers, regional teams and senior operators to communicate and drive compliance with HSE standards to ensure a safe working environment.

What You Need to Be Successful

 

  • Bachelor’s Degree, with minimum of 8 years of experience.
  • In lieu of degree, minimum 16 years’ experience in Health, Safety, Environmental Management.
  • Experience with internal HSE management systems and compliance audits.
  • Experience in implementing HSE programs.
  • Ability to build relationships and lead teams indirectly.
  • Experience with multi-site operations.
  • Experience of managing and maintaining Safety and Health Management Systems (ISO 45001), Environmental Management Systems (ISO 14001) OSHA 1910, and NY State Department of Environmental Protection.

Working Conditions

 

  • Travel up to 10%, may be required.
  • Work will primarily be performed within a manufacturing environment but work within an office setting will also be required.

Pay range for this opportunity is $77,800.00 - $104,727.00.

 

Minimum pay rates offered will comply with county/city minimums, if higher than range listed.  Pay rates are based on a number of factors, including but not limited to local labor market costs, years of relevant experience, education, professional certifications, foreign language fluency, etc.
