The Role:
The Design Engineer is responsible for the design of new or revised products using established engineering principles to meet functional requirements or performance specifications within the medical/dental device industry. The individual will handle design problems of moderate complexity while using a variety of standard engineering methods/techniques. This position will also assist more senior engineers in solving complex problems, while serving as a project leader of projects of limited scope.
What You Will Do as a Design Engineer:

Prepares straightforward plans, designs, calculations, analyses, etc. in accordance with established codes, standards, drawings, or other specifications.

Conducts tests, gathers and analyzes information, helps interpret findings. May require application of computer skills and knowledge of relevant software applications.

Requires familiarity with technical terms or procedures basic to the function in order to communicate effectively with co-workers.

Requires basic oral, written and listening skills to gather, prepare, present and discuss findings and conclusions.

Create and maintain BOMs and routers following accepted standards and ensuring a high degree of accuracy.

Performs engineering calculations by calculator or computer to solve routine engineering problems.

Participate as a member of the product development team; interact with interdisciplinary teams in various projects.

Assists in the development of engineering drawings and specifications.

Develop 3D CAD models (Solidworks), detailed 2D print specifications of components and assemblies for new products.

Analyze design for tolerance, assembly and manufacturability.

Identify materials and required testing for product validation. Verify that all project requirements are met regarding design, quality, costs, and schedule.

Works closely with Product Managers during product development effort for new products and product line improvements or additions.

Works closely with Manufacturing Engineers to identify and specify manufacturing process to efficiently produce product with minimal scrap and increased productivity.

Works closely with Project Managers to ensure assigned tasks meet agreed-upon project timeline.

Work closely with Purchasing during vendor selection and with information regarding material usage.
The Experience, Skills, and Abilities Needed:

Bachelor's Degree in Engineering

Minimum three years of Engineering experience, preferably in a medical device or other regulated industry

General understanding of medical device ASTM 13485 requirements (or experience within a regulated industry such as aerospace or automotive)

Familiarity with ISO 13485, FDA Design Control, CAPA, SCAR, and audit procedures.

Experience in structured problem solving and use of statistical tools.

Experience in Design for Manufacturing, DFMEA, PFMEA, DOE, and Validations

Master’s Degree in Engineering + 1 year of professional experience

Experience working on new product development.

CAD experience is a plus, preferably SolidWorks

This position is eligible for bonus participation.
Minimum pay rates offered will comply with county/city minimums, if higher than range listed. Pay rates are based on a number of factors, including but not limited to local labor market costs, years of relevant experience, education, professional certifications, foreign language fluency, etc.
