Depot Repair Technician

The Depot Repair Technician based in our Canadian head office will deliver on two key responsibilities. The first responsibility includes delivery of medical device services, which includes: technical support, corrective services, preventative maintenance, and reconditioning of medical instrumentation. The second responsibility includes repair, maintenance, and reconditioning of surgical instruments, containers, and positioning equipment.

What You Will Do as a Depot Repair Technician:

•    Provide service, maintenance, and reconditioning on electronic, electromechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic based systems and subsystems manufactured by Cantel or other
•    Provide repair, maintenance, and reconditioning of surgical instruments, sterilization containers, positioning equipment, and other instruments
•    Completes detailed preventative and calibration service procedures; and utilizes service documentation and schematics to complete corrective and preventative maintenance on assigned systems and subsystems
•    Completes ultrasonic cleaning, welding, buff and polish, sharpening, bending, shaping, hinge points, serrations and brazing of stainless-steel instruments and equipment. 
•    Occasionally provide field service at customer sites to install, evaluate, inspect, troubleshoot, repair, calibrate, and/or complete quality performance and testing procedures on assigned equipment. 
•    Preparation of medical devices and instrumentation for customer demonstration and/or conferences.
•    Manage customer service escalations
•    Maintains proficiency in the use of test, calibration, and machining tools, such as sand blast unit, buffers, grinders, hand torch, Dremel, microscope, and other hand and stationary tools/machines. 
•    Demonstrates strong interpersonal skills, and customer-oriented behaviors
•    Provides phone and/or on-site technical and operational support for customers, sales demonstrations, and tradeshows
•    Manage all company assets, including service parts inventory, test equipment, service tools, and other equipment, as assigned
•    Complete all service documentation and administrative reporting and duties including timesheets, expense reports, work orders, and documents as assigned
•    Participate in technical product training and other types of training initiatives. Travel within and outside of Canada will be necessary
•    Follows all company policies and procedures
•    Other responsibilities and services as assigned by Service Operations Manager

What You Will Do as a Depot Repair Technician - cont'd:

The Experience, Skills, and Abilities Needed:

  • Diploma, certificate, or equivalent with work experience from an accredited institute (preference: mechanical, machinist, electro-mechanical, electronics). 
  • 2+ years experience of demonstrated ability to read schematics; complete detailed preventative and calibration procedures; and, utilize service documentation to complete corrective and preventative maintenance on assigned medical devices and instrumentation. 
  • Excellent mechanical, electronic, and electrical skills and knowledge.
  • Effective use of technical knowledge and experience to evaluate, troubleshoot, repair, calibrate, recondition medical and surgical instrumentation and equipment to specified quality performance standards.
  • Proficient in the use of test, calibration, and machining equipment (i.e., digital multi-meter, oscilloscope, and machining tools, such as sand blast unit, buffers, grinders, hand torch, Dremel, microscope, and other hand and stationary tools/machines.
  • Maintains ability to lift 50 lbs.
  • Must maintain a clean and valid driver’s license.
  • Must have a valid passport for international travel (i.e., USA).
  • Basic software skills required including basic proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, for example, Outlook, Word, Excel. 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication.
  • Ability to read, write, speak and understand the English language; French speaking and written skills are an asset.
  • Ability to manage and maintain confidential and proprietary information
