Position Summary

The Buyer/Planner is responsible for assigning commodities to manage the supplier base and products purchased from outside sources to conform to STERIS’s engineering documents, policies, procedures, work instructions, and ISO/GMP requirements. The buyer’s responsibilities do not vary in scope or function but in the authorization levels and strategic commodity duties assigned. The Production Buyer/Planner will be responsible for planning and preparing production schedules for manufactured products following sales forecasts and customer demand in a make-to-stock and make-to-order environment. You will manage MRP exception messages and adjust schedules accordingly. You will also ensure that production and capacity requirements are aligned and take appropriate steps to ensure supply is available to meet demand based on due dates.

 

This role requires onsite work 4 days/week at our Point Richmond, CA location. The schedule is M-Th (9 hours onsite) and F (4 hours from home). This role is not eligible for Visa Sponsorship or H1B Transfer. 

What You'll do as a Buyer/Planner

  • Secures quotes from qualified suppliers of assigned materials to obtain the most favorable prices and services consistent with quality requirements.
  • Purchases products to support Manufactured Products and non-inventory requirements.
  • Expedited purchase orders to maintain material flow and provide customer requests.
  • Maintains appropriate purchasing files as required.
  • Plans and negotiates long-term contracts with a favorable impact on inventory goals, quality, continuity of supply, and corporate cost objectives.
  • Negotiates and facilitates the return of rejected and obsolete material.
  • Reconciles Accounts Payable discrepancies.   
  • Analyze suppliers for the financial health and stability of the Company.  Assists the quality department in assessing the supplier’s ability to meet STERIS quality requirements.

The Experience, Skills, and Abilities Needed

Required

  • Minimum of one (1) to (3) years experience in purchasing, quality control, engineering, marketing, manufacturing, or industrial engineering. Experience is preferred but not required if the Degree is in Supply Chain Management.
  • Minimum of a high school diploma or GED
  • 1-3 years of supply chain-related experience
  • Familiar with manufacturing practices.

 

Preferred

  • CMP or CPIM preferred.
  • Experience in Oracle, MPS, MRS, and CRP preferred

 

Other

  • Possess strong negotiating skills.
  • Capable of reading and interpreting blueprint.

Pay range for this opportunity is $79,687.50 - $103,125.00. This position is eligible for bonus participation.

 

Minimum pay rates offered will comply with county/city minimums, if higher than range listed.  Pay rates are based on a number of factors, including but not limited to local labor market costs, years of relevant experience, education, professional certifications, foreign language fluency, etc.
