Operations Supervisor

POSITION SUMMARY

 

This is a highly demanding site leadership role requiring a flexible and innovative leader with experience of managing cross functional teams, delivering cost saving initiatives and leading improvement projects. The Operations Supervisor/Manager will thrive in a fast-paced culture with the ability to build and maintain effective relationships with stakeholders.

This Operations Supervisor/Manager position is responsible for the site operations team and all day to day duties carried out on site along with demand forecasting activities associated with Customers and products. The Operations Manager creates and maintains forecast models that covers all site demand and resource plans, incorporating business intelligence and forecast information gathered from sales and marketing, ensuring the delivery covers Safety, Quality, Customer safisfaction, operational efficiency and financial requirements.

Internal: Plant Manager, Health and Safety Manager, plant co-workers, Quality Manager, Commercial & Sales teams, Human resources

External: Customers, suppliers, local authorities

 

 

 

Key Duties, Accountabilities and Responsibilities:

 

 

Safety

  • Particpate in HSSE Safety committee meetings
  • Report, trend, action and investigate safety unsafe acts, near misses,incicents and accidents
  • Conduct safety audits
  • Drive safety standards throughout site and operational work areas
  • Maintain Fire Marshal coverage plan
  • Maintain First Aider and appointed persons coverage plan
  • To be an active member in all product and plant based risk assessments.

 

Quality

  • To be an active part of the internal audit team
  • To lead process deviation investigations ensuring corrective/preventative actions are identified, trained, implemented and verified.
  • Participate in GMP audits providing support to Quality Manager
  • Participate in regulatory audits
  • Participate in Customer quality audits when required
  • Ensuring that a timely and effective communication and escalation process exists to raise quality issues to the appropriate levels of management.
  • To ensure that products are produced and stored according to the appropriate documentation in order to obtain the required quality

 

  • To approve the instructions relating to production operations and to ensure their strict implementation
  • To ensure that the production records are evaluated and signed by an authorised person
  • To ensure that the appropriate validations are done
  • To ensure that the required initial and continuing training of this departments personnel is carried out and adapted according to need and reviewed annually

 

Planning

  • Create,own,develop,review and maintain the site Sales & Operations plan
  • Develop demand forecasts (operational forecasts) at multiple levels of aggregation for multiple time horizons as part of a demand planning function that include skills and resource planning.
  • Work with Customers in developing inventory strategies on existing items, new products, and product phase-outs. Working closely with the commercial teans to ensure at all times the product fits within the plant capabilities.
  • Manage and develop the customer side of the site to ensure the customer and site have clear expectations. in line with agreed service levels.
  • Able to schedule the plants and cover back up as and when required
  • Review and report monthly Customer account performance scorecards to Customers
  • Liaise with scheduler regarding the site schedules ensuring they are created, issued and managed with a balance of operational and customer requirements.

 

People

  • Operational leadership of warehouse operators and maintenance team focusing on development and improvement of team training plans, create a motivated and empowered multiskilled workforce.
  • Manage disciplinary actions,Labour forecasting and planning to avoid lone working, interview/selection, temporary staffing and be available to personally fill any vacant shifts when necessary
  • To participate in providing management cover 24 hours per day, 365 days per year through the operation of a call out rota as directed by the Plant Manager.
  • Participate and drive OTOG iniatives
  • Conduct regular performance reviews with team members focusing on development needs
  • To help create and maintain a proactive culture where team members are empowered to deliver the company

Cost

  • Review and manage team overtime hours inline with budget allocation
  • Review of plant downtime data ensuring records are managed and maintained inline with radiation and GMP standards
  • Management of site consumable stock policies

 

Delivery

  • To assist with the frontline maintenance schedule ensuring adequate planning and skilled labour are available.
  • To increase the overall site efficiency and revenue by using a collaborative and inclusive approach with Quality and Sales.
  • To perform customer visits as and when needed.

 

Continuous improvement

  • Lead operational continuous improvement teams. Deploying area improvement plans.
  • Own site 5s audit schedule, carrying out random area inspections
  • Plan, review and develop operational standard work
  • Participate in KAIZEN events
  • Own employee Best practise visit schedule
  • To undertake any reasonable management request

Refined systems and methods to continually improve forecasts so that the company can better anticipate customer needs.

 

EDUCATION EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS

 

 Professional Certification (Professional certifications and regulatory training certificates in relevant disciplines are desirable)

  • A total of 10 years’ experience in service or manufacturing, with minimum 5 years of leadership experience
  • An ability to build relationships with sales, marketing and operations teams is key.
  • A structured, logical thinker with good analytical skills, and excellent spreadsheet and presentation skills, you will have the ability to handle complex problems and deliver clear, concise solutions in a rapidly changing environment. 
  • Project management and Production Planning/scheduling experience is essential.
  • Educated in a business discipline, coupled with commercial flair and judgement that enables you to make the right decisions sometimes without complete data.  
  • Able to learn fast and hit the ground running - there is potential to develop from here into more senior roles with in the business.
