JOB PURPOSE     

< >To provide a high quality service for the collection and delivery of instrumentation within agreed time limits.To be able to provide a high quality service,  required, for the cleaning, inspection, assembly and packing of sterile equipment for hospital and community settings.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

< >To carefully load and unload sterilised product in identified containers, to drive company vehicles and to deliver to customer and return used product within agreed time limits and with due care and attentionTo ensure all vehicles are clean and tidy and to carry out simple maintenance check prior to use to ensure vehicles are fit for purpose.  This will include oil, water, tyre and tyre pressure checks on a daily basis.  To report any accidents or damage to the Team Leader (Logistics) without delay.To drive the company vehicle in a safe manner that demonstrates consideration to other road users and the Road Traffic Act.To ensure the effective preparation of sterile consumables (dressings, linen, instruments and equipment) by the process of cleaning, inspection assembly and packing within predefined quality standards.To rigorously check, wash, lay-up and pack sets of theatre instruments to meet contract specifications within predefined quality standards.To safely operate and monitor machines and equipment (driers, washers, sterilisers) effectively.To load operate and carry out daily tests on product sterilisers.To use the management Information Service for the production of labels and to ensure they correspond with appropriate instrument packTo ensure that repaired instrument or equipment are returned to stock or the appropriate coded sets.To monitor and operate within Health and Safety guidelines.To participate as an integral member of the sterile processing team and actively contributing to suggestions on innovation, continuous improvement and best practice.To actively participate in staff development and training initiatives.To actively participate in the Synergy Healthcare Performance Management System.To undertake relevant training to carry out job role and comply with relevant legislation.To undertake any other duties or tasks as reasonably required.AND SAFETY/RISK MANAGEMENT

 

The jobholder will comply with the Health and Safety At Work Act 1974 and other supplementary legislation and is required to take reasonable care to avoid injury during the course of work and co-operate with the Trust’s and Company’s Health and Safety policy and statutory regulations. 

To use in a proper safe manner the equipment and facilities provided.

To refrain from wilful misuse of, or interference with, anything provided in the interest of health and safety and any action, which might endanger yourself and others.

To report as soon as practical accidents, hazards and untoward incidents and to ensure that accident forms are completed.

Physical Effort

< >To adhere to the Company Manual Handling policy and procedure in executing the safe transfer of instrumentation and sundry items around the Trust.  This will require moving heavy weights manually and using trolleys on a regular basis. 

 

Mental Effort                                                        

< >To be able to maintain concentration where the work pattern is predictable for example, maintaining high standards of accuracy when checking the contents of instrument sets. 

 

Emotional Effort

< >Exposure to distressing or emotional circumstances is rare. 

 

Working Conditions

< >The post entails frequent exposure to highly unpleasant working conditions in that direct exposure to body fluids is implicit in the Sterile Services Technician role.  Similarly implicit is the handling of chemical cleansing agents (irritant) with the protective equipment supplied and the risk of spillage that these procedures incur.The post requires frequent use of road transportation.

Previous experience in Sterile Services and/or health related products.
