Position Summary
The Technical Writer is responsible for creating and updating technical documentation, including manuals, instructions, and procedures, to support engineering change projects. This role ensures all content meets established standards for schedule, quality, and readability. The Technical Writer works independently on routine tasks and collaborates under the guidance of a Senior Technical Writer for more complex assignments. Additional responsibilities include managing translation processes, desktop publishing, and overseeing publication and distribution activities.
What You'll Do As a Technical Writer:
Technical Axis:
- Executes technical writing activities by gathering, analyzing, and validating information from Engineering, Scientific, and cross-functional teams.
- Produces and maintains clear and structured documentation for capital and consumable products including, but not limited to: Technical Data Sheets, Installation Instructions, Operator Manuals, Maintenance Manuals, Cybersecurty White Papers, etc.
- Oversees documentation quality and consistency by enforcing compliance with internal Quality Systems and Corporate Labeling standards.
- Performs technical documentation publication and distribution.
- Coordonates translation projects of product documentation.
- Solves problems related to technical writing, desktop publishing, publication and distribution.
- Works within the PLM (Product Lifecycle Management) system to create content and effect changes as needed for content.
- Experience with XML-based authoring tools for creating structured technical documentation. (desired)
- Experience using Creo Illustrate to develop illustrations for structured documentation. (beneficial)
Project Axis:
- Works on understanding complex notions to update documents fit for diverse audiences from highly-specialized personnel to every-day users.
- Works independently with minimal supervision on routine activities and under general supervision of Senior Technical Writer or a Team Leader on none-routine activities. Receives guidance of Senior Technical Writer or a Team Leader on planning issues.
Management Axis:
- Has no direct reports.
- Collaborates with groups outside of direct responsibilities including other engineering groups, Quality, Regulatory, Marketing, etc.
- Assists in updating and reviewing technical documents for capital equipment and consumable products including, but not limited to: Technical Data Sheets, Installation Instructions, Operator Manuals, Maintenance Manuals, Cybersecurty White Papers, etc.
- Works with product and service engineers to implement engineering changes which affect product documentation.
- Under the supervision of a Senior Technical Writer or a Team Leader, participates in the adaptation of existing product documentation to integrate new products.
- Proofreads documents for readability, grammar accuracy, consistency with corporate standards and completeness. Obtains signed approvals as required.
- Responsible for self-direction in scheduling workload and prioritizing tasks under the supervision of a Senior Technical Writer or a Team Leader.
- Performs other duties as assigned by designated personnel.
The Experience, Skills & Abilities Needed:
- Requires a minimum of 3 years of related technical writing experience.
- Bachelor of Engineering degree, Technical writing degree; Translation degree; Mechanical Engineering degree; Technical Writing Certificate or Engineering related certificate with 4 years experience also acceptable or any degree related to languages.
- English and French language levels: Written – Advanced; Spoken – Intermediate.
- Strong communication skills.
- Exceptional team player.
- General knowledge in a variety of technologies and manufacturing methods, such as electricity, pneumatics, hydraulics, programming and overall system engineering.
- Experience with Illustration software such as IsoDraw, Creo Illustrate, etc.
- Experience with structured authoring and Extensible Markup Language (XML) or desktop publishing software.
- Familiarity with Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) system.

duties involved, including regular communications outside the province of Quebec,
training, email communications, and frequent meetings and interactions with English-
