Position Summary
The Senior Scientist will provide technical lead, development, and expertise in Chemistry at the level of a subject matter expert of SPD and Gastrointestinal (GI) equipment’s. The individual will be responsible for STERIS scientific technologies, cleaning, Thermometry, rinsing, biocompatibility, chemical compatibility and disinfection science. The individual will coordinate the overall execution and design control of R&D projects in line with regulatory standards. The individual will support a technical roadmap that will directly contribute to the continued success of STERIS product line.
What You'll Do As a Senior Scientist
- Demonstrates excellent understanding of STERIS scientific technologies, cleaning, Thermometry, rinsing, biofilm, biocompatibility, chemical compatibility and disinfection science
- Manage projects or sections of projects and may provide directions to assigned staff and/or the project
- Designs, develops, and carries out test plans for assigned projects with minimal management input. Independently perform standard analyses on samples. Presents results to management.
- Develops and validates methods using different analytical instruments (e.g. HPLC, UHPLC, TOC, Florescence, GC, …) using state of the art research for cleaning, rinsing, disinfection, biofilm, sterilization and microbiology.
- Adapts and creates test methods in line with project needs. Suggests and leads ways and methods/techniques to improve the quality of products and services offered as well as the execution of operations.
- Lead test plans, test protocols and test reports. Conducts experiments and document them per SOP and in line with project needs and goals
- Performs analysis and resolves issues using critical thinking skills and problem-solving techniques
- Refining current techniques, troubleshooting problems and documenting processes, procedures and results
- Participates on and/or leads cross functional project teams and maintains good working relationships within STERIS Corporation.
- Develops concepts that can be patented. Writes and publishes technical articles
- Presents findings or products at scientific meetings and conferences
- Assure efficient laboratory operation through acquisition and inventory control of consumables lab supplies and chemicals
- Analyzes regulatory requirements and translates them into project plans.
- Maintains the Research Notebook recording detailed information on activities undertaken, existing conditions and observed results.
- Displays excellent laboratory skills and an advanced understanding of relevant scientific principles theories
- Performs troubleshooting, advanced maintenance and calibration on analytical instrumentation.
- Perform all work in a safe and environmentally conscious manner
The Experience, Abilities & Skills Needed:
- Bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry or Chemistry is required.
- Requires 8+ years of progressive laboratory and/or project management experience.
- Practical working knowledge of Good Laboratory Practices (GLP).
- Demonstrated experience working successfully in a team environment.
- Experience in product development project leadership is desired.
- Experience with medical device cleaning and disinfection and/or experiences in working in a highly-regulated industry which require formalized plans and risk management.
- Knowledge of regulatory agency guidelines/ standards such as FDA/EPA related to medical device is desired
- Demonstrated ability to apply statistical analysis techniques.
- Basic knowledge of project management (like timeline tools etc…)
- Advanced degree in applicable area is typically expected (M.Sc or Ph.D)
- Fluent in French, English language level: Advanced
