Position Summary

Join STERIS in Point Richmond, CA where we are a leading manufacturer of high-resolution digital video processing solutions for mission-critical medical, federal and commercial applications. The Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for providing engineering assistance to Operations and will be responsible for establishing and maintaining all manufacturing processes and procedures including cost reductions and continuous quality improvements. You will be the primary interface between Operations and Engineering. 

What you will do

•    Provide assistance in plant layout, ergonomics, and process engineering such that products are produced efficiently while meeting ISO and industry standards 
•    Lead and implement cost reduction activities and capital equipment acquisition including payback analysis, capacity analysis, and business case justification.
•    Validate and make improvements to product drawings and schematics
•    Assist in vertically integrating our supply chain through additive manufacturing/insourcing initiatives
•    Perform as liaison between Engineering and the Manufacturing floor to train on new processes, resolve problems, or identify additional requirements to existing processes.
•    Design and build test fixtures.
•    Lead process validation activities for new or altered processes in accordance with FDA and ISO standards.
•    Provide technical support and problem solving for production and facility problems.
•    Develop and maintain costing documents for new products through direct labor standards and bill of material standard costs. 
•    Participate in cross functional teams for the advancement of projects.
•    Support new product development activities including reviewing documentation / prototypes from the Engineering team and suggesting improvements, participating in pre-production builds and ensuring results are communicated back to engineering. Represents manufacturing/operations on new product development project teams as needed
•    Train production personnel on new and revised processes.
•    Work with quality and operations personnel to ensure ISO compliance.
•    Perform minor updates to the product design as needed including updating engineering drawings and processing all changes through document control system.

What you need to be successful

•    Bachelor of Science degree required in Mechanical, Industrial, Manufacturing Engineering required
•    3+ years’ experience in a process, industrial, or manufacturing engineering capacity
•    Proven working knowledge of SolidWorks.
•    Experience in an ISO audited manufacturing company required.
•    Must be able to read mechanical drawings and wiring diagrams.
•    Ability to read PCB schematics a plus.
•    Lean manufacturing or six sigma experience. 
•    Knowledge of moving production lines a plus.
•    Medical Device manufacturing experience is a plus.
•    Good written and oral communication skills required.
•    Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, Access, Visio, Outlook)
