Position Summary
Joining STERIS will provide you with the satisfaction of knowing your work will impact the lives of clinicians and patients within hospitals across the world. The team in Plymouth, MN is engineering an array of Endoscope Reprocessors. As the Senior Mechanical Engineer you will perform verification and validation, lead testing on new product development for Endoscope Reprocessors and the accessories. You will work with other team members on the feasibility, design, and development of new and innovative products and solutions for our Customers.
*This role is onsite in Plymouth, MN with the opportunity for a hybrid work schedule.
Duties
- Performs analyses, resolves issues using problem solving techniques to develop new and innovative solutions for our Customers.
- Designs testing, set up test protocols, lead testing in collaboration with test technicians, provide analyses and documentation of test results.
- Provides alternative design solutions to fellow engineers. Works in collaboration with multiple teams/team member.
- Uses mechanical engineering principles of statics, dynamics, thermodynamics, heat transfer, and hydraulics and material science to develop design solutions for medical devices.
- Solves complex mechanical engineering problems by applying a broad knowledge of engineering or scientific principles.
- Determines technical feasibility of new product concepts.
- Collaborates w/ Marketing, Q&R, Manufacturing, Service, Supply Chain, Regulatory Affairs, Vendors, Suppliers and Consultants.
- Demonstrates ability to translate technical information to non-technical associates.
- Subsystem level oversight.
- Leads activities of technicians and designers in support of project assignments and goals.
- Uses 2D and 3D cad software as well as other analysis software.
Required Experience
- Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering degree required
- Five (5) or more years of Mechanical engineering experience with electro-mechanical, capital equipment
- Experience with testing, statistical data analysis, root cause analysis, design controls (process) in a highly regulated industry
- Must have familiarity with calibration devices, pressure sensors, flow sensors and other measurement devices.
- Prototype development and/or test fixture development preferred.
- Demonstrated experience in a variety of materials, technologies and manufacturing methods, such as:
• Metals, plastics, rubber composites
• Bearings, hydraulics, seals, optics
• Welding, machining, forming, casting, molding - Expertise in 3D CAD Modeling (PRO/E preferred)
- Experience solving complex engineering problems through accurate interpretation of requirements and test results
- Experience writing and maintaining clear documentation
