Position Summary

The Associate Scientist is responsible for carrying out assigned projects, laboratory work and data analysis related to Microbiology under the direction of a supervisor.  

Duties

  • Independently operates and various standard microbiology instruments and performs basic maintenance according to established methods (BSCs, incubators, etc). 
  • Demonstrates excellent laboratory technique, as well as understanding and compliance with accepted laboratory and safety procedures.
  • Demonstrates solid proficiency of Microbiology techniques, aseptic techniques, operation of related HLD and sterilization equipment, use and interpretation of test controls in experiments. 
  • Maintains a level of technical knowledge consistent with current scientific literature and best practices.  Demonstrates basic understanding of sterility assurance, D-values, bacterial spores, most resistant materials (MRM). 
  • Ensures efficient laboratory operation through acquisition and inventory control of consumable lab supplies, materials and chemicals. 
  • Demonstrates good writing skills in assisting with writing SOPs and their revisions, test plans/protocols, laboratory reports, & OOS reports. 
  • Maintains a laboratory notebook and documents laboratory data accurate and timely. 
  • Demonstrates skill in the verbal communication of accurate laboratory results to supervisor, and presenting findings to the group. 
  • Carries out routine and semi-routing tasks independently, while performing work under direct supervision and instruction. 

Education Degree

  • Bachelor's Degree in Biological Science

Required Experience

  • 0-5 years of related laboratory experience

Skills

  • Basic skill in microbiology laboratory technique and use of basic microbiology equipment
  • Strong communication (technical, written and verbal) and problem solving skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work and collaborate successfully within a team
  • Works in a methodical and organized fashion within established timelines
  • Ability to read and follow SOPs, technical documents, protocols and methods
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
