Position Summary

Assists with and supports the Radiation Protection Program implementation for assigned North American facilities, providing guidance and support. Ensures compliance with internal and regulatory standard requirements.

This position supports facilities through our west coast operations. Ideal candidate will be based in southern CA, west TX or Utah.

What You'll Do as a Radiation Safety Specialist

•    Assists in the implementation of policies and procedures in the Radiation Safety Program to ensure compliance with applicable regulations and to maintain personal exposures As Low As Reasonably Achievable.
•    Coordinates with Corporate Radiation Safety Officer and Facility Radiation Safety Officers to ensure that Radiation Safety Program policies and procedures are effective by providing training and guidance on related issues.
•    Conducts annual Radiation Safety Program audits in accordance with established policies, procedures and regulations and prepares and submits written reports
•    Assists in effective follow-up for potential hazards or cited violations by ensuring that corrective actions are implemented in accordance with organizational or regulatory standards.
•    Assists in verification that the Radiation Protection Program policies and procedures are adhered to by investigating incidents and auditing work practices.
•    Maintains radiation safety related equipment inventory.
•    Develops professional skills, knowledge and abilities by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications and participating in professional societies related to radiation and radiation safety.

•    Communicates in an effective manner by using accepted business practices in a courteous and professional manner and providing timely and accurate responses and service-oriented offers of assistance.

•    Exhibits a commitment to the AST shared values of Customer Satisfaction and Continuous Improvement through ensuring defect-free workmanship, assisting others to meet the Customer’s needs, searching for efficient and effective ways to reduce waste, being active and accountable for Customer satisfaction, and satisfying the Customer’s needs with a sense of urgency.

•    Contributes in a team effort by performing according to the guidelines outlined in the STERIS Code of Business Conduct, the GMP, Lean principles and other directives; supports the directives and decisions of higher level management and performs other duties as assigned.

The Experience, Skills and Abilities Needed

Required:

 

•    Minimum zero to three years of general or operational experience with bachelor’s degree science related field. Will accept minimum of seven years’ experience in radiation field with ISO and/or GMP exposure and customer service focus required in lieu of degree.  
•    Ability to effectively read, write and verbally communicate. Spanish is a plus.
•    Ability to work independently under general guidelines and supervision.
•    Requires computer literacy to include word processing, spreadsheet and software capabilities.
•    Effective interpersonal skills as demonstrated through prior experience.
•    Strong organizing, analyzing and Level 4 math skills (practical application of fractions, percentages, ratios, proportions, measurements and basic algebra) to determine organizational Customer and regulatory problems and formulate corrective action plans; attention to detail.
•    Ability to travel domestically and internationally. Valid passport or ability to obtain one for work related travel.

Pay range for this opportunity is $67,000 - 83,000. This position is eligible for bonus participation.

 

Minimum pay rates offered will comply with county/city minimums, if higher than range listed.  Pay rates are based on a number of factors, including but not limited to local labor market costs, years of relevant experience, education, professional certifications, foreign language fluency, etc.
