Working Pattern

Full-time, 40 hrs per week on Monday-Friday at 8:00-16:30. 

What is involved?

The Repair Technician at STERIS IMS plays a critical role in maintaining and repairing surgical instruments, ensuring their functionality and safety. This involves a range of hands-on tasks, from intricate repairs to equipment maintenance, demanding both technical aptitude and physical capability. This is a hands-on role that involves a variety of physical activity, including standing, walking, and sitting, as needed to complete tasks. It also requires the ability to lift and manipulate heavier tools and machinery, including presses. 

  • Repairing a variety of medical devices, ensuring they meet stringent quality standards.
  • Actively participating in ongoing training sessions and diligently recording detailed notes. This continuous learning is vital for staying up to date with the latest techniques and technologies.
  • Taking full responsibility for the care and maintenance of assigned equipment, including microscopes, computers, and various tools. This includes ensuring the equipment is clean, used correctly, and stored appropriately.
  • Maintaining a clean and organised work environment, contributing to a safe and efficient workspace.
  • Operating specialised equipment, such as presses, soldering irons, and laser machines, requiring a high degree of skill and precision.
  • Managing assigned devices throughout the repair process, from initial receipt to final completion, ensuring proper handling and tracking.
  • Scanning devices to track their progress and maintain accurate records.
  • Prioritising tasks effectively, determining which devices require immediate attention based on urgency and importance.
  • Communicating clearly and professionally with team members and leadership, fostering a collaborative work environment.
  • Liaising with the stockroom to request necessary parts, ensuring repairs can be completed efficiently.
  • Maintaining excellent timekeeping and punctuality, adhering to scheduled work hours. Absences are monitored, and any absence must be reported promptly via the sick line and by notifying the line manager directly.
  • Handling small objects with precision and dexterity, including the use of tweezers, reflecting the fine motor skills required for intricate repairs.
  • Demonstrating both strength and precision when handling tools and equipment, ensuring accurate and safe operation. This role involves working with heavier tools and machinery, including presses, so physical capability is important.
  • Utilising strong physical dexterity and mechanical skills to perform repair tasks effectively.

Required Experience

  • Ability to handle small objects with precision and use tweezers.
  • Physical dexterity and mechanical skills.
  • Strength and precision in handling tools and equipment.
     

Preferred Experience

  • Excellent hearing for detecting subtle machinery or operational issues.
  • Familiarity with machinery operation.
  • Proficiency in using a soldering station.
  • Attention to detail and computer proficiency.
  • Experience working with pliers.
  • Strong organisational skills and problem-solving abilities.
