The Role

 

The Value Stream Manager in our Montgomery, AL location is responsible for achieving annual objectives for safety, quality, delivery and cost of the value stream or defined area. Embraces Lean transformation through education of self and direct reports, kaizen concepts and activities, visual management tools, and root cause problem solving. Works closely with the Director of Operations to establish goals and objectives and strategies to achieve them. By utilizing key leadership principles of respect, humility, and leading by example, this position will create a positive work environment by engaging employees in the continuous improvement of Safety, Quality, Delivery and Cost initiatives.

What You Will Do

 

  • Manage and coach both direct reports and indirect value stream team members, including Supervisors, Leads, Engineers, Maintenance, Quality Control, Purchasing and Production Planning.     
  • Provide direction, collaborate with management, and support staff outside of the value stream to conduct operations in a safe and productive capacity to meet the needs of our customers and business objectives.
  • Manages employee talent and talent development. Provides growth, training, and development opportunities to employees.
  • Maintains results through coaching, and counseling of staff and setting meaningful and measurable goals. 
  • Balancing the needs of the business and employees, coordinates and manages performance reviews, recruitment/hiring, salary adjustments, work schedules, and conflict resolution/employee relations.
  • Working closely and in conjunction with Production Planning; develops and meets schedules based on plans provided.
  • Responsible for operational decisions associated with quality control, process procedures, equipment maintenance, and labor utilization.
  • Ensure inventory accuracy by conducting cycle counts and reviewing for accuracy.
  • Drives a safe work behavior by demonstrating, promoting and  recognizing safe work performance and anticipating safety needs relative to equipment or conditions.  

 

  • Coordinates compliance training on internal and external regulations (e.g. FDA, Homeland Security, OSHA, EPA, ISO and STERIS). Stays current on regulations and establishes a monitoring program to audit compliance.
  • Supports approved new product development teams and projects through manufacturing input as required.
  • Provides direction and leadership in continuous improvement and lean principles.
  • Demonstrates respect for every individual through daily coaching of team Leads and Operators on job duties and in understanding the "why" behind lean principles and tools.
  • Works for continuous improvement by analyzing new or alternative ways to improve operations, incorporating staff suggestions into analysis. Provide necessary training and follow up to sustain improvements. 
  • Utilizes investigating process deviations, customer complaints audit activities and recommendations for implementing corrective or improvement actions within the department.
  • Leads production staff by coaching, counseling, motivating, and administering corrective action as needed.  
  • Plans, monitors and appraises job results. Directs and maintains activities designed to achieve and maintain high employee morale.
  • Fosters intra- and inter-department cooperation and teamwork.

What You Will Need to be Successful

 

  • Bachelor’s Degree 
  • Minimum of 7 to 10 years of experience working in a manufacturing environment.
  • Five or more years of supervisory experience.
  • Strong interpersonal communication and influencing skills to effectively interact with cross-functional team members.
  • Analytical and data driven with the ability to use strategic thinking for problem solving and continuous improvement.
  • Effective leadership skills with ability to proactively and constructively voice ideas, opinions, and suggestions.
  • Financial and business acumen to interpret financial data and performance measures to make informed decisions.
  • Customer-driven with strong sense of urgency to meet their needs.
  • Excellent organization, time management and project management skills
  • Proficiency with MS Office application including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.

Preferred Experience

 

 

  • Five years Lean Operations experience strongly preferred. 
  • Five years working in regulated environment within the drug and or medical device industry preferred. 
  • Direct profit and loss accountability experience preferred.
  • Experience with MS Project or Power BI, a plus.
