The Surgical Solutions team in Montgomery is responsible for the production, release, and sustainment of Operating Room capital equipment. 

The Senior Mechanical Engineer will be an integral part of the new product development team, having ownership for the assembly production process, establishing new processes, managing standard work,  and product validation. This is a very team oriented position where you will work closely with many cross functional teams on problem solving, cost saving and continuous improvement initiatives. 

What you will do

•    The Senior Mechanical Engineer will develop design solutions for new and existing mechanical assemblies on STERIS Surgical products. 
•    Lead project teams to understand user requirements, generate conceptual designs, perform trade-off and feasibility studies, design and fabricate test benches, conduct laboratory and shipping tests, develop full scale systems, and document designs, analyses, and test results.
•    Clarify and document functional specifications to achieve product development and cost to meet marketing requirements. 
•    Ensure complete documentation for manufacturing and assembly.  
•    Provide technical input during project life cycle to ensure smooth transition from design to manufacture.
•    Provide mechanical engineering leadership in development of innovative mechanical systems for AV integration and electrical applications.
 

What you need to be successful

•    BS in Mechanical Engineering required; MS in Mechanical Engineering preferred. 
•    7+ years’ experience in Mechanical Engineering taking products from design transfer, through assembly and market launch. Experience within an Assembly environment is highly preferred. 
•    Must have the ability to build prototypes as well as reverse engineer mechanical parts
•    Proven understanding of mechanical systems and interaction with overall electrical sub-systems
•    Previous use of parametric modeling (SolidWorks or ProE strongly preferred)
•    Mechanical design knowledge (medical device industry strongly preferred)
•    Proven aptitude for hands-on tasks, assembly and broad understanding of machining techniques
•    Proven ability to prepare and present engineering designs to other engineering disciplines, projects teams, customers, and senior management. 
•    2+ years’ experience in a regulated industry, medical preferred
