The Surgical Solutions team in Montgomery is responsible for the production, release, and sustainment of Operating Room capital equipment. The Sr. Mechanical Engineer is is responsible for the design, development and overall realization of a new product,  and sustaining engineering of existing product(s). 

You will lead cross-functional core teams for all phases of new product development. Direct all phases of program development from inception to completion of a commercialized product, and launch through the lifecycle of the product.  The programs managed by the Senior Engineers represent critical strategic imperatives and are global in both scale and scope, and have direct visibility to senior management. The recommendations from the Senior Engineers and Core Team have significant long-term impact on the division affecting the financial, employee and customer view of the company.  The role is closely linked to the Product Supervisor of the business line.
 

What you will do

 

  • Perform full range of engineering duties and project assignments based on general instructions and guidance from supervisor or lead engineers.  Daily production support for assigned product lines.
  • Represent Current Product Engineering as a core team member on NPD and/or Sponsor Team projects
  • Design, develop, document and execute mechanical and/or electro-mechanical solutions for components and assemblies to meet company and departmental goals.
  • Perform analysis and resolve issues using problem solving techniques to develop new and innovative solutions for our Customers.
  • Use mechanical engineering principles of statics, dynamics, thermodynamics, heat transfer, hydraulics, and material science to develop design solutions for medical devices.
  • Use 2D and 3D CAD software as well as other analysis software such as FEA (Finite Element Analysis)
  • Solves complex mechanical engineering problems by applying a broad knowledge of engineering or scientific principles
  • Determines technical feasibility of new product concepts
  • Provide technical support to all functional areas of Operations and serve as liaison to Manufacturing for design related product changes
  • Perform analysis on returned product and perform investigations on Customer complaints
  • Provide Project Management resource for Sponsor Team and/or appropriately sized projects for product enhancements
  • Train and mentor Engineers and Designers in Engineering principles
  • Participate on Lean and Continuous Improvement activities
  • Prepare and present project and/or technical data to management
     
What you need to be successful
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • 7+ years  Engineering experience within R&D, Assembly and/or Manufacturing. Must have Industry experience.  
  • 3+ years experience in Current Product Engineering environment 
  • Minimum 5 years of experience working with a CPE/R&D Team
  • Minimum 5 Years Capital Equipment Experience (Defense, Aerospace, Medical Devices, Appliances)
  • Experience leading R&D or CPE Teams in projects from initial concept, through development and verification / validation testing, and into Manufacturing. Ability to balance customer, manufacturing, business and regulatory requirements to expedite launch of the right product to market.
  • Experience successfully managing programs through stage gate methodologies. Track record of managing programs to schedule and budget.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in driving continuous improvement for performance, quality, time and cost; strong planning and organization skills required.
  • Ability to work in a highly regulatory environment.
  • Integral role in Multi-Disciplinary Programs (Electrical, Mechanical, Software)
