The Role
As a Senior Electrical Engineer in our Surgical Solutions Business at STERIS you will lead cross-functional core teams during all phases of New Product Development (NPD) / Sustaining Engineering from inception to commercialized product completion including product launch and continuing through the entire lifecycle of the product.
The Senior Electrical Engineer manages critical strategic imperatives that are global in both scale and scope and have direct visibility to senior management. This role works closely with the business line Product Supervisor and within a cross-functional team supporting the development plans for a product. The Senior Electrical Engineer utilizes knowledge of design concepts, practices, and procedures as well as creativity, latitude, experience, and sound judgement to accomplish goals.

- Utilizes strong organizational and project tracking skills.
- Develops and executes departmental goals and objectives.
- Establishes operating mechanisms to drive collaboration, and decision-making agility.
What You Will Do
- Represent Sustaining Engineering as a core team member on New Product Development (NPD) and/or PIPC projects.
- Design, develop, document, and execute mechanical and/or electro-mechanical solutions for components and assemblies to meet company and departmental goals.
- Develop design solutions for medical devices using electrical engineering principles of control system design, power distribution and low voltage process instrumentation engineering.
- Solve complex electrical engineering problems by applying a broad knowledge of engineering or scientific principles.
- Perform analysis, resolve issues and develop new and innovative solutions for our Customers; determines technical feasibility of new product concepts utilizing 2D and 3D CAD software and other analysis software.
- Provide technical support to all functional areas of Operations and serve as liaison to Manufacturing for design related product changes.
- Perform analysis on returned product and perform investigations on Customer complaints.
- Provide Project Management resource for PIPC and/or appropriately sized projects for product enhancements.
- Train and mentor Engineers and Designers in Engineering principles
- Participate on Lean and Continuous Improvement activities.
- Prepare and present project and/or technical data to management.
What You Will Need to Succeed
- Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or Software Engineering
- 7 or more years’ overall experience in Sustaining Engineering or R&D environment.
- 3 or more years’ Sustaining Engineering experience working with obsolete materials Identification and reacting to needs of the production floor/ supporting production.
- Minimum 5 years of experience leading projects as part of a cross functional team (sustaining, R &D, New Product Development, Product Lifecycle Management)
- Minimum 5 years sustaining engineering for Capital equipment experience in a regulated environment (Defense, Aerospace, Medical Devices, Appliances)
- Project / program management skills, required.
- Experience working in a cross functional Multi-Disciplinary Programs (Electrical, Mechanical, Software)
Preferred:
- Masters in Engineering Discipline, MBA, preferred.
- Experience in more than one of the following functional areas: Operations, Supply Chain, Quality
- Experience in LEAN Methodologies
- Working knowledge with Windchill, Pro Engineer, CREO, Microsoft Project, and Six-Sigma programs
- Software Engineering - Embedded software programs and other languages C, C++
