Position Summary

As a UI/UX design intern at STERIS, you will be a member of the Procedural Capital/Procedural OR product design team which is responsible for industrial design, UI/UX design, and product graphic design. The product design team works directly with the extended Procedural Capital/Procedural OR cross functional team including engineering, marketing, product management, clinical resources, and manufacturing to develop capital medical equipment, procedural devices, adjacent products, and turn key clinical environments. While the focus of this position is interaction, interface, and user experience design, you will have the opportunity to participate in product design, and product brand element design. Design also supports the downstream marketing communications team. This position requires the ability to meet deanding medical design challenges with elegant, relatable, intuitive solutions.

What You'll Do as a User Interface/Experience Intern

  • UI/UX:  Develops elements, icons, and interface layouts for both physical and virtual interaction points.  Will have the opportunity to contribute to the development of a UI/UX design system.
  • Research:  Conducts primary and secondary research covering markets, products, users, stakeholders, and design.   This includes audits, competitive benchmarking, and testing.
  • Analysis/Synthesis:  Works with the team to analyze UI/UX, market, product, and brand research.  Participates in synthesizing and developing a unified look, feel, and rule set for future interfaces.
  • Product and Graphic Design:  Develops graphics and labels for medical devices, this includes visual design and product branding elements as well as co-located instructions, product information, and warnings
  • Communication:  Works with the design team supporting the process of design communication internally.  Creates infographics and other visual materials to communicate insights and facilitate team discussions.  I.E. marketing strategy, and customer research findings.  Also supports external Marketing Communications activities if needed.

The Experience, Skills and Abilities Needed

Required:

  • Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate design program (graphic design, UI/UX design, product design, industrial design, or similar)
  • Proficient in UI/UX design
  • Proficient in using the Figma platform for UI/UX design
  • Proficient in core Adobe products including InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop
  • Experienced in graphic design
  • Experienced in creating production quality graphic elements, artwork, and design guides
  • Proficient with the Microsoft Office suite

 

Preferred:

  • Experienced in interface and application design for web, desktop, mobile, and dedicated devices
  • Is familiar with the creation of UI/UX design systems
  • Has previous real world design experience outside of an academic setting
  • Has worked directly with clients
  • Has managed or led a design project or a design team

 

Other:

  • Understands the product development process in a cross functional setting
  • Able to collaborate, compromise, and evolve solutions working with other disciplines and functions
  • Conversational in core design thinking and innovation principles and practices
  • Research (market, customer, user, competitor, etc.), research synthesis, and effective insight articulation
  • Creating and employing design strategy by effectively leveraging, and applying research insights
  • Product branding and brand development
  • Visual communication 

Pay range for this opportunity is $23/hr - $27/hr

 

Minimum pay rates offered will comply with county/city minimums, if higher than range listed.  Pay rates are based on a number of factors, including but not limited to local labor market costs, years of relevant experience, education, professional certifications, foreign language fluency, etc.
