Instructional Training Designer

The Instructional Training Designer directly supports the Service Training Department through design & production of performance-based training programs using multiple modalities. This includes but is not limited to live and virtual instructor-led programs, self-paced programs, authored web-based programs, video, 3D animations and programs that utilize a blend of these modalities.  This position will work with the Service Training, Service Management and Service Engineering teams utilizing Instructional System Design (ISD) methodologies to create best in class solutions for our training consumers.  The ITD is also responsible for managing outside vendors as needed to create multi-media training programs.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Designs training projects and performs instructional design and development of both blended and self-paced interactive programs.
  • Utilize appropriate e-Learning tools, software to transfer knowledge into e-Learning methodology.
  • Design, develop, and author interactive and engaging instructional materials with assessments and simulations using a variety of tools and applications to include, audio, video, animation, narrated presentations, podcasts, webcasts, simulations, and virtual learning environments. 
  • Design and develop materials to support both facilitators and participants in instructor-led and blended training programs taking account of adult learning principles 
  • Utilize instructional design principles or models (e.g. ADDIE, ISD, etc.) to effectively develop courses for new and existing training content. 
  • Implement designs for learning solutions that include, but are not limited to, classroom training, eLearning and blended learning solutions. 
  • Be a subject matter expert for the training department and give recommendations concerning course design, virtual learning environments, course management, and evaluation systems. 
  • Utilizes outside vendors to assist in the creation of multi-media training programs.
  • Create design documents that specify learning objectives, learning strategies, learning materials design specifications, measures of student learning, skill application and learning impact (e.g., business results) 
  • Utilize new instructional technologies, innovative instructional practices, and new course delivery methods. 
  • Design, develop, and author interactive and engaging instructional materials with assessments and simulations using a variety of tools and applications to include, audio, video, animation, narrated presentations, podcasts, webcasts, simulations, and virtual learning environments. 
  • Evaluates the effectiveness of learning programs and makes future recommendations accordingly..Track and trend training/qualification performance. 
  • Has authority to make and implement decisions within the area of assigned responsibility.
  • The function of this position is to be the primary source for the development of technical e-learning training programs, within the area of assigned responsibility, that will enable the field technicians to support the Service Plan for a piece of equipment or business sector.  
What Skills, Abilities, and Qualification will you need?
  • Bachelor’s degree in Instructional Design, Adult Education, communications or equivalent experience in related areas. 
  • Demonstrated expertise in media development is required. 
  • Demonstrated effectiveness working with third party media developers.
  • Experience administering Learning Management Systems (LMS).
  • At least 4-6 years experience in multi-media authoring/production.
  • At least 4 years experience with the full design process of training programs pertaining to the maintenance and repair of electrical, mechanical or electronic equipment.
  • Minimum 2 years+ experience working with Adobe Captivate version 9 or greater required. 
  • Expertise in Performance-based Instructional System Design methodologies used in technical course and curriculum development.
  • Extensive knowledge of multi-media interactive authoring and editing software. Experience with Adobe Creative Suite, especially Captivate, Premiere Pro, Audition and After Effects.
  • Expertise in staging solutions on Learning Management Systems (LMS).
  • Experience with video shoots, editing and post-production is highly desired.
  • Experience with utilizing 3D models and CAD drawings into Learning Solutions. Creo software preferred.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office 365 Applications.
  • Familiarity with HTML, or programming languages such as Java or Java Script is preferred but not required.
  • Must have strong ability to work with peers and management of all levels.
  • Demonstrated effective organizational and communication skills.
