Position Summary

Coordinates all Tool Room activities under the direction of the Manager. The Tool Maker is responsible for 100% set-up of equipment and produces parts to print for both components and assemblies.
 

Duties

  • Works with manufacturing and engineering to conceptualize and design fixtures, dies, gauges and jigs to be used in machining, fabrication and assembly of products 
  • Creates tooling used for machining and fabrication.
  • Receives work instructions and prepares and operates equipment in accordance with instructions.
  • Performs machine set ups and equipment or tooling adjustments.
  • Verifies, trouble shoots, and resolves machine issues as they arise.
  • Monitors the quality of own work being produced and conducts own inspection.
  • Documents work as required.
  • Actively seeks out process improvements and communicates appropriately.
  • Moves materials to appropriate location for pick up to next work station.
  • Performs daily clean up, maintenance, and 5s work within area of responsibility.
  • Complies with all regulatory, safety, policies, and standards requirements.
  • Performs PMs on equipment as defined
  • Manages raw material inventories communicates orders to Manager
  • Identifies required tooling, prepares order, and manages stock for Tool Room activities
  • Helps to maintain and execute Work Order System
  • Be able to participate and represent department in facility activities or groups such as safety committees, Continues Improvement etc
  • Performs other duties as requested or assigned

Education Degree

  • High School Diploma or GED

Required Experience

  • At least 3 years manuals machine set-up on a variety of machining types (vertical mill, engine lathe, surface grinders)
  • Experience with Fixture making and tool and die work.
  • At least 3 years experience working in a solid metal fabrication / machining environment with knowledge of properties of materials and machining various metals and plastics.  
  • Knowledge of calculations for speeds and feeds and tooling selection is required.

Skills

  • Must be able to read and interpret blue prints.
  • Must be proficient in using measuring instruments (e.g. micrometers, calipers) to inspect own work in accordance with specifications and requirements
  • Experience in a lean, continuous improvement environment.
  • Knowledge of various types of metals.
  • Previous experience working in the medical equipment field preferred
  • Strong math skills 
  • Demonstrated ability to use tool room equipment and machines
