Position Summary
STERIS is growing and we are looking for a Technical Trainer to join our team in Mentor, OH. The Technical Trainer develops and conducts technical and related training programs for internal and/or external customers both at Company sites and off-site as needed. This role assists in the creation of training programs and demonstrates procedures being taught by applying knowledge and following course outlines. The Technical Trainer performs department equipment maintenance when necessary and contributes to the training effectiveness of the group, while maintaining their own levels of expertise in instructional design and delivery techniques, product knowledge and curriculums.
This role requires onsite work 5 days a week at our Mentor, OH Corporate HQ.
What You'll do as a Technical Trainer
- Perform classroom duties as required to train STERIS and CUSTOMER personnel according to assigned curriculums. These duties include, but are not limited to, classroom lecture, group discussions/role plays, testing and evaluation, interactive/distance training,etc.
- Perform Lab/Practicum duties as required to train students according to assigned curriculums. These duties include, but are not limited to, Performance/Demonstration of hands-on tasks, lab monitoring, testing and evaluation, etc. Promote safety and safework practices at all times, and advises students of Company practices/procedures as they relate to their job, as well as to the STERIS Service Training facilities.
- Evaluate students enrolled in classes with the Service Training department. Evaluation devices include written tests, lab practical exercises, one on one encounters, and discussions of course materials. Communicate his/her evaluation to appropriate parties(per company policy) when required to do so. Counsel students and recommend remediation to students on an as-needed basis.
- Teach "customized" or individualized courses when necessary to accomplish the mission of the Department. Perform assignments requiring Domestic or International travel, as required by the Technical Training Manager or approved designate.
- Organize and develop, or obtain, training procedure manuals and guides and course materials such as handouts and visual materials. Create and utilize prepared and approved lesson plans and course materials when teaching classes.
- Work as a team member to incorporate changes to the curriculums as needed. You will use the approved procedures to initiate and document all required curriculum and/or materials changes.
- Maintain product and technology knowledge at levels needed to reflect current industry standards. This is done using all available STERIS documents, industry bulletins and publications, and other similarly recognized (STERIS) authoritative documentation.
- Maintain instructional and presentational competencies to be able to conduct any of the training available through the Service Training department.
- Present information, using a variety of instructional techniques and formats such as role playing, simulations, team exercises, group discussions, videos and lectures.
- Build experience in assessing training needs through surveys, interviews with employees, focus groups, or consultation with managers, instructors or customer representatives.
- Work as a team member to offer specific consultative advice to help workers maintain or improve job skills. Attend meetings and seminars to obtain information for use in training programs, or to inform management of training program status.
The Experience, Skills and Abilities Needed
Required:
- Associates Degree in relevant Science or Instructional background. Equivalent experience may be considered as replacement for some of these requirements.
- Certified in an approved instructor training program and/or minimum 2 years experience in informal (adult) training; industrial, vocational or technical training.
Preferred:
- Bachelors Degree inSciences or Technologies highly preferred.
- Ability to read and interpret technical documentation, such as electrical and plumbing schematics, diagrams, Isometric and sectional drawings, etc preferred.
Other:
- Must have strong ability to mentor colleagues in all areas of training expertise to enhance other instructor’s skills.
- Must possess the ability to develop lesson plans based on available curriculum materials, including course outlines, equipment manuals, engineering materials.
- Must be able to support the development of training aids, including simulators, e-learning courses, video presentation, distance learning, etc.
