Position Summary

Join a dynamic Engineering team developing innovative products for the Surgical Solutions business at STERIS. This team develops general and specialty surgical tables, surgical and examination lights, equipment management systems, operating room storage cabinets, warming cabinets, scrub sinks and other complementary products and accessories for use in hospitals and ambulatory surgery sites. The Systems Engineer is a technical role that will support New Product Development initiatives. This person is responsible for a broad array of engineering activities including subsystem design and system verification, working cross functionally with Mechanical, Electrical, and Software Engineers to maintain continuity throughout the design and development process. 

What you will do
  • Execute Systems Engineering verification activities within various engineering disciplines, including initiation, testing requirements definition, coordination, and review of the designs executed. 
  • Assist in the preparation of documentation, including configuration documentation, protocols, reports, and other DHF and product documentation. 
  • Support defect management activities. 
  • Execute technical realization of designs including requirements management, technical documentation, and 2D and 3D design
  • Release engineering documents and drawings in a PLM System; implement ECN’s as related to design or manufacturing documentation
  • Support system integration, including cross-functional collaboration, analysis, and technical problem solving 
  • Perform cross-discipline technical feasibility and tradeoff studies, including R&D prototype, builds and testing. 
  • Support system-level design & reviews 
  • Interact with vendors, suppliers and consultants regularly to follow up on subassemblies and procure R&D samples, while confirming alignment with requirements and specifications.

What you need to be successful
  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical, Software or  Mechanical Engineering or other related Engineering degree. 
  • Experience in multi-discipline project development environment.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of new product development engineering experience, post graduation, required. 
  • Desired:  Exposure to other engineering disciplines, including Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Optical Engineering or Physics. 
  • Systems thinking acuity.
  • Ability to apply technical skills in multiple engineering disciplines.
  • Demonstrated ability in technical analysis including evaluation of multiple candidate solutions and significant evaluation of intangibles.
  • Ability to propose methods, techniques and evaluation criteria to realize product functionality.
  • Exposure to developing and executing verification and validation test plans.
  • Excellent communication, influencing and conflict resolution skills.
  • Self-motivated and great with multitasking.
  • Excellent technical writing, and presentation skills.
  • Preferred: Experience with PTC Integrity or other related tool. (DOORS, RequisitePro)
  • Systems modeling training experience (e.g. MATLAB, Simulink, Labview).
  • Preferred:  Lean product design training preferred.
