Position Summary:

The Sourcing Specialist is responsible for performing and overseeing special projects aimed at improving STERIS’ overall sourcing and procurement effectiveness, including Lean Product Development initiatives.  The successful candidate will develop key strategic relationships with suppliers to support global sourcing, manufacturing, and supply chain strategies.  The successful candidate will have a close working relationship and collaboration with the global strategic sourcing, manufacturing, quality, operational procurement and business unit operation leaders in strategy formulation, supplier selection, and supplier management. 

What You Will Do:
  • Provide direction and vision for sourcing initiatives and apply Lean Product Development principles and manufacturing experience to achieve New Product Development goals
  • Participate in New Product Development projects as a Core Team member, representing Global Operations (Manufacturing and Sourcing) and responsible for the integration of new designs and technologies with our manufacturing processes, as well as identifying sources for components (manufactured and purchased)
  • Lead / Champion cross-STERIS sourcing effectiveness to achieve year-over-year improvement in total quality, surety of supply, cost of ownership, and service
  • Lead the identification of key suppliers / partners to strategically source STERIS parts and / or build operations.  Work with strategic sourcing team to align key strategic suppliers and manufacturing capabilities with new product development needs
  • Negotiate, structure, and secure agreements with selected suppliers
  • Coordinate the development of purchase, quality inspection, part qualification and delivery processes for commodities within the New Product Development process
  • Identify sourcing best practices and communicate the practice to commodity and new product development teams
  • Attract, develop, and retain top talent, including working with sourcing engineers and specialists to develop individual career paths
  • Participate in the development of strategy and risk management assessment
  • Participate in strategic merger, acquisition, and business development process (due diligence and integration)
  • Communicate critical supplier performance issues on an on-going basis to procurement and operation leadership
What You Need to be Successful:
  • General Business or Technical undergraduate degree; Master’s degree in technical field or MBA is preferred
  • Six (6) plus years of experience working in strategic sourcing, manufacturing and / or industrial environment.  A broad knowledge of multiple direct material commodities is required
  • First-line supervisory experience in a Lean Manufacturing environment is preferred
  • Excellent knowledge in data architecture and management; knowledge of applications like Microsoft Office (Excel, Access, PowerPoint, etc.), and project management tools
  • High energy, driven and enthusiastic about opportunities to establish new approaches to reduce Total Cost of Ownership (TCO)
  • Outstanding negotiation skills
  • Capable of setting direction and providing leadership for a new organization / start-up
  • Exceptional problem solving, project management and organizational skills
  • Capable of quickly developing mechanisms and tools to increase sourcing effectiveness, including utilization of E-sourcing and auctions
  • Capable of capturing and transforming an idea/concept into business opportunity and deliver positive results. 
  • Strong team contributor, comfortable in leading a cross functional and multi-cultural team environment; a self-starter
  • High tolerance for ambiguity
