Position Summary

Design, develop, and execute software verification tests for medical devices following STERIS work instructions.  Analyze software requirements and design specifications for testability.  Develop functional, integration, interface, and unit tests for software applications and firmware using knowledge of test methods, equipment, and platforms.  Create test scripts for automated verification tests.


  1. Designs, implements, debugs, and executes software tests according to corporate policies and business operating procedures on new and sustaining engineering projects.
  2. Works on specific tasks under direction of manager or senior test engineer.  
  3. Participates in test reviews to better understand requirements and receive guidance on test approaches.
  4. Applies test design principles and technologies to verify software meets requirements and identify anomalies in software operation.
  5. Supports senior engineer in Investigation of new test technologies and tools.
  6. Performs unit, integration, and system testing and capacity / performance testing of software applications.
  7. Documents defects, capturing steps to reproduce and information for debugging.
  8. Implements test automation initiatives per plan.
  9. Validates software test tools according to corporate procedures.
  10. Creates and maintains automated test scripts using appropriate scripting and tools to support project’s needs.
  11. Collects data to generate metrics to assess test progress and software quality.

Education Degree

  • Bachelor's Degree

Required Experience

  1. Bachelor in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or Software Engineering.   (A degree in another Engineering discipline may be acceptable with proven software education and/or training and demonstrated software experience.)
  2. Exposure with developing or testing embedded, PC, or web applications
  3. Demonstrated competence within a software development organization.
  4. Team player with abilty to work within project teams with guidance.
  5. Ability to solve engineering tasks through accurate interpretation of requirements and test results.
  6. Strong communication and problem solving skills.
  7. Competence in scripting languages such as Python and Perl.
  8. Practical experience in C/C++ object-oriented analysis and programming, and multi-threaded/multi-tasking programming is desired.
  9. Experience using defect management and test management tools is preferred.
