Position Summary:
The Senior Software Engineer is responsible for the design, documentation, development, and testing of software solutions for new and existing networked medical devices and medical device data handling systems. The Senior Software Engineer is also responsible for analyzing product/system-level requirements and translating them into software requirements, as well as the deployment and delivery of specific software features and functionality. This position works independently and within a cross functional team without continuous supervision.
This position is located onsite in Mentor Ohio or Pt Richmond CA locations (Hybrid ).
Job Responsibilities:
- Contributes to cross functional project planning, development, and analysis of product requirements, and proposed solutions.
- Refine and refactor the software architecture based on the system architecture and new product requirements.
- Designs, documents, implements, and maintains efficient, reusable, secure, and reliable software code according to corporate and department standards and procedures for new and sustaining engineering projects, maintaining code quality, organization, and automation.
- Performs design transfer activities including supporting the customer-facing software implementation team with deploying and sustaining customized network and IT implementations.
- Creates software development process documentation, including requirements, design and interface specifications and verification documentation.
- Develops time and effort estimates for features and functions.
- Develops and performs unit, integration, and/or system testing of applications as required.
- Participates in design reviews to identify issues and provides recommendations for enhancements.
- Works independently on routine activities, issues, plans, and larger-scale designs.
- Will act as a mentor to junior engineers although not directly responsible for their management.
- Identifies bottlenecks and bugs, and devises solutions to these problems.
- Reviews and resolves software defect and change requests.
- Reviews and approves plans and detailed designs.
- Supports the release of software for product.
Education:
Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Software Engineering, or Electrical Engineering required with 3 or more years of related engineering experience OR Master’s Degree in above noted field with 1 or more years of related engineering experience. (A degree in another Engineering discipline may be acceptable with proven software education and/or training and 3 or more years of demonstrated software experience
Required Experience:
- Experience with Linux, Ruby on Rails, SQL, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and Bash is required.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills and strong problem-solving skills are required.
- Experience performing software requirement analysis and definition, Experience working with stakeholders to refine product requirements to be realized in software is required.
- Proven experience at software analysis, development, task time and effort estimation, and execution to plan is crucial.
- Experience with object-oriented programming, multi-threaded/multi-tasking programming, and server-client architecture is required.
- Proficient experience with the Linux operating system and server administration is required.
- Capable of solving engineering problems through accurate interpretation of requirements and test results.
- Experience with Git version control is required.
- Experience creating automated tests is required.
- Exceptional team player with leadership experience.
Preferred experience:
- Working knowledge of hospital network systems and compliance and including Electronic Medical Records, HIPAA, HL7, PACS, DICOM, Vendor Neutral Archives, and VPN connections.
- Exposure to machine learning (ML) and artificial intelligence (AI) is desired.
- Comfortable working in a shell terminal (i.e. command-line).
- Comfortable participating in code peer review (i.e. pull requests) and pair-programming.
- Experience with agile development and the Scrum framework is desired.
- Experience with SW build/collaboration tools such as JIRA, Bitbucket, Bamboo, and Jenkins is desired.
- Experience with containerization tools such as Docker, Buildah, Podman, and Skopeo is desired.
Skills and Experience:
- Experience in the implementation of infrastructure and applications for Manufacturing, Installation, and Serviceability is desirable.
- Experience with configuration management, continuous integration (CI), continuous deployment (CD), and automated code analysis tools is desired.
- Experience working in a regulated industry which requires formalized software development processes and software risk management is desired. Medical device industry experience is preferred.
- Eping or maintaining device driening device driever software on an embedded system is required.xperience with Ethernet, network architectures, network protocols, HTTP/HTTPS, SIP/H.323, and SSH is highly desired.
- Travel up to 10% (including international and medical facilities).
- Contribute to overall software architecture design.
- Determine design, configurability, build, deployment implementation, and upgradability for software system components.
- Determine algorithms and parameters for complex product features and system level interactions. Implement and test algorithms or manage the implementation and testing.
- Identify issues with design and determine corrections or enhancements.
