Position Summary

Responsible for high quality technology solutions that address business needs by developing applications within the existing COBOL and RPG/RPGLE environments.  Utilize COBOL and RPGLE programming methodologies and languages.  Adhere to coding standards, procedures and techniques and contribute to the technical code documentation.  Design and Implement technology solutions for applications, interfaces and data conversions.  Review the Software Change Requests and evaluate the solution/s. Remain aware of new technologies / programming languages.  Perform unit and system testing. Maintain and support the applications. Lead small size development projects/initiatives.

Duties

  1. As appropriate, participate in project planning sessions with Project Managers, Business Analysts,  Technical Analysts and development team members to analyze business / technology requirements and outline the proposed technology solution.
  2. Participate in design reviews and provide input to the design recommendations.
  3. Incorporate security requirements into design.
  4. Understand and comply to SDLC in all planning steps.
  5. Adhere to technology control policies throughout design, development and testing.
  6. Incorporate Corporate Architectural Standards into application design specifications. Provide input to information / data flow.
  7. Ensure interface specifications are included in completed deliverable.
  8. Identify applicable system platform, components, and dependencies.
  9. Document the detailed application specifications.
  10. Translate technical requirements into programmed application modules.
  11. Develop / enhance software application modules.
  12. Provide uniform integration into legacy systems.
  13. Perform unit, system and integration testing and participate in capacity / performance testing of an application. Create / test prototypes
  14. Complete assigned project deliverables within business / audit control requirements.
  15. Identify and document ongoing maintenance requirements.
  16. Participate in code reviews and ensure that all solutions are aligned to pre-defined architectural specifications.
  17. Perform system integration testing and analyze / report the results to pertinent teams.
  18. Identify / Troubleshoot application code-related issues (provide 3rd level production support / issue resolution).
  19. Review and provide feedback to the final user documentation.
  20. Perform data loads, as needed.
  21. Adhere to technology disaster recovery procedures.
  22. Participate in project estimating activities.

Education Degree

  • Bachelor's Degree in Information Systems or Computer Science

Required Experience

  1. Bachelor’s Degree in computer science or Information Systems preffered.
  2. 5-7 years  of technical expereicne working within various computer applications.
  3. Knowledge of  AS/400 architecture and operating system
  4. Understanding of COBOL and RPGLE programming languages and design technique.
  5. Knowledge of version and revision control practices and procedures.
  6. Knowledge of design and programming techniques that provide security.
  7. Knowledge of SDLC a plus.
  8. Knowledge of SQL, HTML and Java a plus.
  9. Demonstrated effective organizational, written and verbal communication skills.
  10. Strong analytical and required technical skills.
  11. Possess a high degree of initiative and self-direction.
  12. Ability to work well with members of the business to determine best practices and solutions for business requirements.
  13. Ability to work well with an offshore development team.
  14. Strong knowledge of STERIS business processes and systems.
