Position Summary

The Senior Reliability Engineer develops the reliability requirements for both new products in development and existing product platforms; implements reliability programs; and performs appropriate analyses and tasks to ensure that products meet all requirements. This role is responsible for analyzing preliminary engineering-design concepts for new and existing products in order to recommend design or test methods for attaining specified product operational reliability requirements. The Reliability Engineer provides advisemnet to predict critical component and/or sub-assembly performance to ensure excellent reliability and extended operating life. 




  • Execute Design for Reliability process for New Product and provides feedback to New Product Introduction teams to improve metrics and customer experience.
  • Introduce reliability requirements at the earliest design stage to reduce post launch issues on identified platforms/products.
  • Create and communicate project plans, tasks, and deliverables to meet project deadlines. This includes reporting pertinent information at key milestones through clear, concise oral and written communications.
  • Participate in the development and operation of a reliability improvement program.
  • Serve as a dedicated resource to determine areas with potential for improvement in quality and warranty performance and support engineering projects.
  • Analyze specific portions of a design for potential reliability issues.
  • Determine inherent reliability of new designs – manage product reliability tests, analyze test data and reduce to usable information for product design.
  • Monitors failure data to ascertain potential requirement for product improvement, conduct failure investigation, determine root cause and propose and implement solutions.
  • Develop and participate in the development of test protocols and reports.
  • Assist in design and build of test fixtures, and instrumentation systems.
  • Provide supervision, coaching, administrative leadership and technical direction to Reliability Technicians and/or Engineers
  • Other duties as assigned.


Education Requirement

  • The position requires a B.S. in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, similar engineering field, or in other pertinent science or technical field.
  • CRE (Certified Reliability Engineer) certification through ASQ (American Society of Quality) is desired.

Required Experience

  • 5+ years of proven experience in Reliability Engineering and design and development of complex electromechanical systems.
  • Proven leadership and project management experience in highly accelerated and complex projects.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide technical leadership for reliability initiatives on products with substantial complexity and scope.
  • Proven excellent communication skills and ability to perform within a cross-functional and global team environment.
  • Skilled in facilitating meetings, making presentations and communicating with others.
  • Ability to drive change initiatives.
  • Demonstrated ability to draw conclusions and make recommendations based on technical inputs from multiple and varied functions (i.e. Marketing, Manufacturing, Quality, Regulatory, Service, etc.)
  •  Ability to interpret, analyze, and present technical information using practical judgment.
  • Demonstrated problem solving skills.
  • Ability to organize and manage concurrent activities.
  • Knowledge of advanced data gathering and analysis techniques, including statistical analysis.
  • Knowledge of standard quality and reliability tools such as FMEA (Failure Modes Effect Analysis), Root Cause Analysis, DOE and Statistics. Experience with Design for Reliability (DFR) guidelines.
  • Experience in component derating and application.
  • Experience with reliability prediction, estimating and reliability growth.
  • Experience with redundancy and fault tolerance.
  • Experience in use of reliability software; such as, Reliasoft, Relex Windchill (PTC) to perform Weibull, Alta and SimBlock analyses.
  • Experience with Six Sigma methodology.
  • Understanding of Quality System Regulations (QSR.)
  • Experience with FDA regulated environment and/or medical device/healthcare applications.
