Position Summary
The Senior Mechanical Engineer performs analyses, resolves issues using problem solving techniques to execute mechanical or electromechanical solutions for components, and supports the feasibility, design, and development of new and innovative products or solutions for our Customers. This role is responsible for the new product development and sustaining of electro-mechanical medical devices and healthcare equipment for sterility assurance and workflow automation solutions.
Duties
- Performs analyses, resolves issues using problem solving techniques to develop new and innovative solutions for our Customers.
- Must have solid knowledge of optical system, optical design, and optical material.
- Familiarity with FDA regulations including design controls, design history files, regulatory approval methods, and overall medical device industry knowledge
- May represent R&D as NPD core team member.
- Designs, develops, documents and executes mechanical and/or electromechanical solutions for components, assemblies to meet company or department goals.
- Performs full range of engineering duties and project assignments based on general instructions and guidance from supervisor or lead engineers.
- Uses mechanical engineering principles of statics, dynamics, thermodynamics, heat transfer, and hydraulics and material science to develop design solutions for medical devices.
- Uses 2D and 3D cad software as well as other analysis software.
- Solves complex mechanical engineering problems by applying a broad knowledge of engineering or scientific principles.
- Determines technical feasibility of new product concepts.
- Demonstrates success in design and development necessary to commercialize complex electromechanical products as part of an engineering team.
- Incorporates new technologies (state of the art) / innovations in certain disciplines.
- Tier 3 OEM Customer responder.
- Collaborates w/ Marketing, Q&R, Manufacturing, Service, Supply Chain, Regulatory Affairs, Vendors, Suppliers and Consultants.
- Demonstrates ability to translate technical information to non-technical.
- Subsystem level oversight.
- Leads activities of technicians and designers in support of project assignments and goals.
- Designs, develops, and implements activities required to support both new product development, and/or solve problems on current products, by applying skills in one or several branches of science and engineering.
- Applies code/standards guidelines and requirements to product design.

Education Degree
Required Experience
- A minimum of 5-10 years of related engineering experience.
- Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering degree or Biomedical Engineering
- Experience with design controls (process) in a highly regulated industry
- Demonstrated experience in a variety of materials, technologies and manufacturing methods, such as:
• Metals, plastics, rubber composites
• Bearings, hydraulics, seals, optics
• Welding, machining, forming, casting, molding - Expertise in 3D CAD Modeling (PRO/E preferred)
- Experience solving complex engineering problems through accurate interpretation of requirements and test results
- Strong communication
- Prior experience working in a team
Preferred Experience
- Graduate coursework desirable
- Experience with Lean Six Sigma / (DFMA) Design for Manufacturing, Assembly, Serviceability is desirable
- Experience with design controls (process) in a highly regulated industry; medical preferred #LI-KS1
