Position Summary

The Senior Health, Safety & Environment Manager is responsible for implementing the OSHA Voluntary Protection Program, and additional initiatives as identified for all STERIS facilities within the continental United States. This position is responsible for developing and implementing Health, Safety and Environment management systems throughout STERIS Corporation. The Senior Manager, Corporate Health, Safety & Environment will be an integral team member of the HSE team and STERIS facilities globally, to implement “best practices” for STERIS employees.

Duties

  • Initiate the development and implementation of the Voluntary Protection Program (VPP) application process throughout the organization
  • Provide support and guidance to each facility to ensure success in achieving the Voluntary Protection Program – Star Award
  • Assist and guide each location in identifying gaps in the existing health, safety and environment system, and outline methodology to eliminate the gaps
  • Be actively involved in each location’s process for acceptance into the VPP program
    • Provide templates and direction for completion of each element of the VPP application
    • Develop timelines and ownership for each element and sub-element of the application
    • Assist with completion of each section of the application
    • Provide audit preparedness assistance
    • Provide support throughout the on-site OSHA evaluation
    • Be available to each site throughout the entire process and post process
  • Work with each facility to sustain VPP STAR level systems upon acceptance into the program
  • Provide support and guidance to each facility throughout the re-certification processes
  • Define and develop health, safety and environment system components at the Corporate level
  • Assist each location in the writing and implementation of specific health, safety and environment system components
  • Work closely with the HSE Corporate Team to identify additional initiatives to be undertaken by the Corporation
  • Provide support and guidance to each location for any additional initiative identified
  • Remain current on health, safety and environmental regulations

  • Be a resource wherever needed throughout the HSE environment at STERIS Corporation
  • Evaluate equipment, physical facilities, operation techniques, and procedures
  • Establish requirements for special monitoring procedures and personnel exposure scenarios
  • Develop and implement specific training for new procedures and tasks
  • Prepare and implement communications based upon OSHA and EPA new regulations and/or revisions to existing regulations
  • Review, coordinate and assist with creation, modification, or closing of facilities via enforcing all procedures or regulations
  • Conduct audits and perform evaluations
  • Create and deliver innovating solutions, thus striving for continuous improvement

Education Degree

  • Bachelor's Degree

Required Experience

  • Graduate from an accredited (4) year college or university.
  • OSHA 501 Instructor Status is required.
  • Extensive experience in OSHA Voluntary Protection Program with successful acceptance at the STAR level and experience with developing and executing HSE Management Systems.
  • Minimum of 15 years progressively responsible work experience.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in the field of HSE as evidenced by various accreditations including, but not limited to, OSHA 501 Instructor Status.
